The interactive guide to Ferrari road cars

A wordy title for a CD-ROM that should delight car enthusiasts - and bore everyone else to tears. Once you get used to the stylish user interface, controlled from a Ferrari cockpit along with the obligatory polished gearshift, you can cruise through all the Ferrari models, seeing fact lists and pictures, and hearing a commentary on each sleek machine. There's an introduction to the company's history and detailed records of race performance.

The multimedia aspects of the CD-ROM are very slick. Movies in either MPEG or RealSynch run smoothly on a good PC, and there's some very acceptable background music. The disk is multilingual, in English, French and German, though some of the title screens stay in English whatever is selected.

Grand finale is a tour of Silverstone from the wheel of a Ferrari. This looks good, but would have been so much better if details like speed, revs and distance were featured in on-screen dials rather than in a text commentary box that takes the eyes away from the video for too long.

Overall - A beautifully presented homage to the Ferrari that should delight car nuts. Priced around £29.99 in the UK. Produced by Global Beach, web site: http://www.global-beach.co.uk/
