All notebooks use rechargeable batteries. The cheapest and most robust form are Nickel-Cadmium (NiCad). Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH) last 30% longer but cost more. Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells are just 
becoming available. 
They last the longest, but cost five times 
more than NiCad.
