PCMCIA slots are the standard expansion slots for notebook computers. Originally designed for memory_cards, you can now buy and plug in modems, network adapters, hard_disks and other goodies. There are three sizes of slot, I, 
II and III (the largest). Sometimes a type-III slot can hold two type-I cards instead of a single type-III.
