Creating a Secure Link Using the SSL Protocol

To establish a secure link using this Enhanced Microsoft Internet Explorer SSL-capable browser requires nothing more than clicking a hyperlink that begins with the https:// prefix. The https:// prefix indicates that the server is SSL-capable.

If you know the address for a secure server, you can establish a secure link to it as follows.

  1. On the File menu, choose Open.
Or click the Open button on the toolbar.
  2. Type https:// followed by the address (URL).

The SSL code in the browser and in the server communicate using the HTTPS protocol to authenticate the server.

SSL encrypts the data so no one can read the data on the connection, and ensures that the data is not changed during transmission. This enables you to send your credit card number to a secure store site without fear that the digits can be read off the network.
