*** LEVEL INFINITY Presents *** Secrets Of The Acropolis v1.0 for Duke Nukem 3D v1.3d/v1.4/v1.5 *** STORY After having rid Los Angeles and the rest of the world and solar system of aliens (or so he thought) Duke decides to take a well-deserved vacation. So he packs his bags and heads to the Mediterranean to relax and enjoy the sites. Among the sites he visits is a museum. But after exploring the museum for a short while he begins to notice a subtle similarity between the Greek artifacts and some of the things he'd seen in the aliens' domain. He gets suspicious and starts exploring further. He begins to discover clues that lead him to a secret passage hidden beneath the museum. There he finds an alien artifact which provides him with evidence that the alien invasion was not a recent development. The aliens had originally infiltrated Earth's civilization nearly 3000 years ago, during the Classical Greek era. Duke also discover that the "artifact" is actually a machine of sorts, a link to the ancient world. He realizes now that there may be other such links and the aliens could return once again. He decides the only real way to defeat them once and for all is to travel back to their original source and destroy them there. After some experimentation he gets the link to work and finds himself traveling back to ancient Athens. He first finds himself in a village and must find the trail of evidence that will lead him to the alien source. He discovers that the aliens have presented themselves to the Greek people as gods, having them build great temples to worship and honor them. The aliens have infested the Acropolis and Duke must destroy them! After clearing the Acropolis he thinks his work is finally done. He is just about to celebrate his victory when he discovers there is yet another temple, a hidden temple, unknown to modern day archeologists and ancient Greeks alike. He follows the trail to the temple and there he makes yet another startling discovery. E1L1-The Village-Ancient Athens The village is a small town surrounding the Acropolis where the ordinary people lived. Lots of narrow streets and paths, whitewashed buildings, a merchant trading center, a dock, and many hidden mysteries. The village reflects the everyday life of the average Greek citizen. E1L1-The Propylea This is the glorious entrance to the Acropolis and its monuments, constructed as part of the Perikles programme. The Propylaea, erected between 437 and 432 BC, were the work of the famous Athenian architect Mnesikles. E1L3-The Erechtheion The Erechtheion was built in 420-406 B.C, on that part of the Acropolis held to be the most sacred; the place where the goddess Athena had caused her most sacred emblem, the olive tree, to sprout. This tree was destroyed in later years by the invading Persians. But when the Persians were finally driven off, legend has it, that the tree miraculously grew again. E1L4-The Parthenon The Parthenon is the unique masterpiece of the world. You will realise it yourself the moment you stand in front of it and learn a little of its history and the secrets of its construction. The beauty, harmony and grace of this monument make a really lasting impression on everyone who sees it. Today admission to the Parthenon is prohibited due to the restoration work that has been taking place there since 1983. This will not prevent you from admiring this unique temple dedicated to the goddess Athena and built of white marble from Penteli. Under the Parthenon of the Classical times there are remains of the monumental Ur-Parthenon, an Archaic temple dated in the late 6th century B.C. The architects of the Classical temple, which was constructed and decorated between 447 and 432 B.C. during the Golden Age of Perikles, were Iktinos and Kallikrates. The Parthenon housed the golden-ivory statue of Athena, work of the famous sculptor Pheidias. This statue was the final destination of the Great Panathenaea procession, depicted on the frieze of the temple. E1L5-Hades' Passage Beneath the ancient Acropolis lies a path to the aliens' secret hideout. This passage is a very nasty place with tricky jumps and hot lava. Above all it is infested with those damn alien bastards. E1L6-The Hidden Temple Bonus-Ancient Spaceport Duke finds a Spaceship the aliens have been using to Travel back and forth to Earth. Problem is Duke can't get close to the Ship. He's going to have to go the long way around. Jumping down a well he finds himself in an underground cavern with long forgotten ruins. Duke know's this has got to have something to do with the spaceport he saw from the surface. Duke finds himself in a not so forgotten ruin/spaceport. He's got to get to that Ship before it takes off. *** INSTALLATION Create a directory especially for Secrets Of The Acropolis and unzip the contents of the distribution file (usually SOTA.ZIP) into this directory.
