Hercules Terminator BEAST Windows 95/98 Drivers and Tools Version 0.94.61102 Installation Guide October 29th, 1998 CONTENTS Introduction If You're Updating From An Earlier Release Installation What's New In This Release Known Limitations How To Contact Hercules Introduction ============ This guide contains the information you need to install our Windows 95 drivers and tools for your Hercules product. **************************IMPORTANT NOTE***PLEASE READ*************************** This driver version requires DirectX 6 for proper operation! Please install DirectX 6 before using this release. If you are installing this driver release from the Hercules driver CD, DirectX 6 will automatically be installed with the Typical installation option. If you downloaded this software release, you may obtain DirectX 6 from Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/directx/resources/dx6end.htm ********************************************************************************* If You're Updating From An Earlier Release ========================================== If you already have an earlier version of our Power Drive Windows 95 driver installed, you should run the UnInstall program located in the Hercules PowerTools program group before continuing. Doing this removes the previous release of software from your hard drive, as well as all old references to the drivers and utilities in your configuration files. The UnInstall program will also change your display driver back to the standard VGA driver. After running the UnInstall program, restart your computer. Installation ============ To install this release, double-click the self-extracting installation program. It will automatically decompress the driver and utility files and start the installation process for you. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the drivers and/or utilities. When prompted, restart your computer to complete installation. What's New In This Release ========================== 1. Random flashing polygons in some Direct3D games and applications such as BattleZone, 3D Winbench 98 and others have been eliminated. 2. Tiling problems have been fixed; for example the Windows 98(high color) screen saver now displays correctly when stretched fullscreen, the menus in MotoCross Madness now display properly, and other games and applications that exhibited display anomalies should be improved by this fix. 3. Trees are now displayed properly in the Need for Speed 3 (Corvette) demo. 4. Intel IBASES 1.7 AGP Texturing Test no longer hangs on VIA MVP3 systems when zooming in or out. 5. Fixed fog appearing too close to the player in Shogo and Motocross Madness. 6. Fixed flashing on Tomb Raider 2 option screens. 7. Icons in Gamespy toolbar are no longer corrupt. 8. Nokia monitor test now displays correctly at 1024x768x16bpp. 9. Intro videos on BattleZone and Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 are no longer played compressed at the top of the screen. Known Limitations ================= 1. Some polygon flashing still evident in certain D3D applications; i.e. 3DMark 99. 2. Pressing Alt-Tab multiple times while running Quake 2 or GLQuake may cause a crash. 3. G-Police main menu may smear after returning from gameplay. To avoid this problem, disable anti-aliasing in the G-Police graphics options screen. 4. Results in the Final Reality Bus Transfer tests are lower than other AGP cards. This is due to the tiling scheme the Savage 3D chip employs when writing to the frame buffer and is expected behavior. 5. Video on Flight Unlimited 2 opening screen is corrupt. This is due to an issue with Active Movie. 6. In order to use 100Hz and 120Hz refresh rates in Windows 9x, you must install Terminator BEAST BIOS version K3D or later. The latest BIOS may be downloaded from http://www.hercules.com/support/drivers/term/tbeast/. Hercules is on an aggressive schedule to provide solutions to known limitations whenever possible. If you encounter a problem, please contact us to ensure that you are using the latest software.
