A PUBLIC DOMAIN FORMATTER. This small program is copyrighted 1990 to W. Visser, P.O. Box 507, Beenleigh, Queensland 4207. It is basically the format routine out of the SUPERMON cartridge, made available as a PD program, and you may pass it on to anybody as long as: You do not charge for it. You do not alter it in any way. You ALWAYS include this text file. You have a choice of either calling this utility SUPERFMT.PRG, in which case you can run it from the desktop like any other PRG file, or naming it SUPERFMT.ACC, in which case you can put it in the root directory of your boot disk, and have it available at any time. Here are some of the "Supermon advantages": Both nine and 10 sector format are "twister". Format starts at the end and can abort. Format with or without verify. Bad sector marking allows use of damaged disks. Disks are automatically innoculated. You can choose IBM format. Quick wipe takes only seconds. Allows adding a Volume label to disks. Tells you if you forgot to change disks. All formatting will be the so called "twister" format, which doubles your loading (reading) speed, and writing speed if verify is switched off (A Supermon option). Both FORMAT and QUICK WIPE will innoculate the disk against boot sector viruses. A message saying "This floppy is 'Supermon' safe" will appear on boot up, indicating the disk has not been tampered with. FOR COMPLETE VIRUS PROTECTION, USE THE SUPERMON CARTRIDGE WITH ITS 4 WAY VIRUS PROTECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tracks are written from the LAST one to the first, and formatting can be aborted. This means that formatting the wrong disk is no longer fatal! Simply hold down Alternate and Left Shift to abort. Disks can be formatted with or without verify. Without is not as safe, but takes 1/2 the time! After the format bar fills, and the busy bee appears, hold down Alternate/Left Shift to abort verification and bad sector marking. Clicking on FORMAT starts the formatting with whatever parameters you have set up, such as Single sided/double sided, nine or ten sectors per track and number of tracks selected. You will get a warning that all information will be lost. If you have not changed disks since the last access, you will get a further warning advising you of that. (Unique to Supermon). Clicking on QUICK WIPE will blank the FATs (File Allocation Table) and directory sectors, leaving any previous disk layout intact, but making the disk appear totally blank. VOLUME LABEL is a name which you can give to the disk. After the format is completed, this name will be added to the disk and shows up when "Show info" is called. If you wish to add a volume label to an already formatted disk, whether there are already files on the disk or not, enter the name and click on ONLY. This will ONLY write the volume label. MARK BAD. This will rapidly scan the disk for bad sectors, and de-allocate these in the FATs. This means that when files are written to the disk, these sectors will be bypassed. DO NOT USE MARK BAD ON DISKS WITH INFORMATION ON THEM. This is because IF a bad sector is part of a file, you will no longer be able to access this. IBM FORMAT will NOT inncoculate the disk, but give it an IBM compatible header instead. FORMATTING and BAD MARKING may be aborted by holding down the Alternate and Left Shift key together. This formatter is just one of nearly a hundred different functions in the SUPERMON cartridge. If you like the formatter, you will love the power Supermon gives you.
