For Goodness Saks, It's OS/2 ═══ OS/2 Is The New Trend At Saks Fifth Avenue INTERNET: PSPINFO@AUSVM1.VNET.IBM.COM, DATE: 29-Dec-93 at 10:18:23 December 29, 1993 An OS/2-powered solution manages inventory in Saks Fifth Avenue stores throughout the U.S. Thanks to Applied Tactical Systems, a company that specializes in automated solutions for industries, Saks Fifth Avenue has successfully leaped into the world of high technology. Store representatives use wireless, radiofrequency, hand-held scanners to gather data from clothing racks and send it to a remote PC running on OS/2 2.1. OS/2 processes the data, stores it, and sends it to an IBM 3090 mainframe which records the contents of each store in the country. Daily routines such as counting stock, moving inventory, and re-ticketing for price markdowns, are now done electronically. Large inventory counts that once took weeks to calculate are now done in seconds. As a result, things are running much more efficiently than ever, especially for the Loss-Prevention departments, whose operations depend on accurate inventory counts. And the benefits aren't limited to Saks employees. Customers looking for an item which is unavailable in one store, for example, may ask a sales person to search for it among other stores. In a matter of seconds, the sales person can retrieve and order the item for the customer. By processing inventory the OS/2 way, sales people have a lot more time to spend with customers. Applied Tactical Systems decided to build their solution on OS/2 2.1 because of its multitasking ability, which permits them to manage inventory, track activities, and send data to a host computer at the same time. The OS/2 communications capabilities provide Saks with a very robust network that can handle large volumes of high-speed inventory transactions real-time and without error. The system at Saks is so successful that additional OS/2-based solutions are in the works. Applied Tactical Systems is in the process of developing OS/2 solutions for mobile pointof-sale terminals, portable label printing, and other automated functions for the retail giant. If you would like OS/2 to rev up your inventory system, or would like more information about this Applied Tactical Systems & OS/2 solution, contact George Nikityn of Applied Tactical Systems, (201) 808-1750. OS/2 Means New Power for LA Utility ═══ OS/2 Means New Power For LA Utility INTERNET: PSPINFO@AUSVM1.VNET.IBM.COM DATE: 04-Jan-94 at 17:51:04 January 4, 1994 AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 3, 1994 . . . For the nation's largest municipal utility, IBM's award-winning OS/2* PC operating system is proving to be an invaluable resource by helping to pinpoint trouble, manage requests and offer customers better service than ever before. "Perhaps the best feature about OS/2 is that it allows us to have multiple applications running at the same time," said Robert C. Burt, director of information technologies at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. "We've used OS/2 PC-based workstations to help our customer information system handle customer calls, both commercial and trouble calls, for the electric and water sides of our business, greatly enhancing customer satisfaction," he said. In addition, LA Water and Power has recently taken advantage of OS/2's full graphical user interface to install a new system that utilizes GUI capabilities to analyze trouble calls for its 1.4 million electrical customers. "We can now quickly diagnose problems and dispatch field personnel to solve specific electric trouble problems using an expert system that relates many customer trouble calls to individual trouble events," continues Burt. "The system also provides full color graphics showing the exact location, on detailed city maps, of the electrical equipment and circuits involved in each trouble event." Another important use of OS/2 for this southern California utility is a client/server application, a field installation order system for its water business. Said Burt, "This system employs PC-based clients and servers, with an additional host server using OS/2 and DB2*, to manage all requests for new water service or modifications of existing water service for our 700,000 water customers." The LA Department of Water and Power is also using OS/2 for records management. "We've put in a GUI client/server-based system to allow customized batch processing by each of our document control centers for the indexing of our corporate records and subsequent automatic uploading onto the host-based records management system. The system now manages 3.4 million records and 26 million images," said Burt. "We've used OS/2 wherever we've needed a secure, fully functional operating system. We find that as our users become more sophisticated and productive with their PCs, they want access to additional data resources and applications, and OS/2 does an excellent job at providing this kind of access," he said. * Indicates a trademark or registered trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. ═══ 1.3.3. Computer Shopper Awards OS/2 2.1 ═══ Computer Shopper Awards OS/2 2.1 INTERNET: PSPINFO@AUSVM1.VNET.IBM.COM DATE: 29-Dec-93 at 07:19:06 December 28, 1993 The votes are in for Computer Shopper's Best Buys of 1993 awards and IBM's OS/2 (*) 2.1 was voted Best Operating System in a poll conducted of their readers last July and August. Ballots were tabulated by Shopper's editors, then sent to reviewers for further scrutiny before the awards were published in the January 1994 issue. OS/2 2.1 emerged victorious over all the newcomers, including Windows NT (**), with readers citing OS/2's pre-emptive multitasking a significant benefit, allowing them to run multiple DOS, Windows and OS/2 programs, unharnessing the power of their 386s and 486s. OS/2's graphical user interface, Presentation Manager and multimedia enhancements in this version received kudos as well. Readers were asked to select products based on their performance, price, quality and customer service, and IBM's seven day a week, 24 hour a day Help Center contributed to OS/2's success. This award is a significant achievement for IBM, since it demonstrates the growing acceptance of OS/2 by the user community. * Indicates trademark or registered trademark of International Business Machines. ** Indicates trademark or registered trademark of Microsoft ═══ 1.4. Software News ═══ PM Designer 1.0 LiveWire 2.1 Released Beta Testing for Skyscraper for OS/2 ═══ 1.5.1. PM Designer Version 1.0 ═══ VacNat Software Announces PM Designer Version 1.0 Visual C++ Application Design Tool Original From: Kelly Schrock (1:202/335) Original Area: OS2PROG Original Subject: Product Announcement Origin: OS/2 Shareware BBS Fairfax, VA - (703) 385-4325 (1:109/347) PM Designer(PMD) is a visual programming tool for OS/2 PM and C++ that takes the drudgery out of writing Presentation Manager applications. It can reduce the time it takes to write a functional PM application from days to hours or minutes. The idea behind PMD is to allow the fastest possible transition from "Hey, what if I had an app that..." to "Okay, that's what it looks like.", without having to actually write a program, compile it, and run it first. PMD integrates your other tools, acting as kind of a bridge between the resource-creation and coding stages of your application's development. Building a PM application complete with a status bar, toolbar, dialog boxes,a menu, etc., is a simple "point and click" process. First, use your resource editor to create the dialog, bitmap, and menu resources that will appear in your application. Now start PMD. Press the "Design" button, RMB click on the design window, press few buttons, and you're on your way. Specify the files your resources are in, and their names, and they appear on the window as they would in a "live" application. Select items on these resources, for example an item on a menu, and PMD allows you to "link" that item to a specific dialog box, running another application, opening a system-defined dialog box, or simply inserting a section of your own source code. PMD supports the generation of singlethread as well as multithreaded applications, applications with dialog boxes as their main windows, and generates makefiles, support code in header files, .RC files, and attractively formatted, highly organized C++ source code. The resultant programs are compact and fast. Unlike most other visual programming environments, no massive runtime DLLs are required, and of course, there is no runtime royalty fee. PMD also has a "test" mode that allows you to view the application as it would look and behave after it's built and compiled. The resultant source files can be regenerated after you edit them without destroying the work you've already done. Pricing and Availability: PMD is available via mail order at a price of $45, which includes shipping and handling. This includes PMD's design environment, the code generator, the PMDAPI header file set, the online reference information, the text editor, the skeleton files, example programs, an icon and bitmap library, the necessary .LIB files, and technical support through CompuServe, and VacNat's own BBS. See the address below for details on where to send your order. System Requirements: PMD does not include a compiler, .RC editor, or the OS/2 header files. You will have to supply these. a package such as Borland C++ for OS/2 will work nicely, as will any other package that includes a C++ compiler, and the OS/2 Toolkit. PMD requires approx. 2 MB of disk space, and a minimum of 8MB of ram is recommended. A mouse is also highly recommended. How to see a Demo: To see a demonstration of PMD and what it does, how it works, etc., a demo can be downloaded from CompuServe in the OS2DF1, BCPPWIN, or OS2USER forums. It is also available on the OS/2 Shareware BBS (703-385-4325), Silver Lake BBS (206-743-3489), or VacNat' s own BBS, at 913-764-5958. This is a smaller version of PMD so that you can download it with less expense(in case the BBS is long-distance) but it includes example programs, a fully functional copy of PMD's design environment, and the documentation. It also includes an order form. It is also available for FREQ at 1:280/304. The filename is PMDDEM.ZIP. User Group Introduction ═══ At long last I've put all my notes together and put the user group directory into a database (R:Base 4.0 for OS/2 for your curiosity). By doing so, I can more readily make sure we have currently available public information and update the list easier, too. On top of that, I can use the "report" feature to creat the code I need to create the INF version. Clever, eh? We publish only information that has been published in: Fidonet, CompuServe, Internet & Issue 1 of IBM's "Personal Software" newsletter, which listed OS/2 user groups. I have also been lucky enough to stumble upon a good number of newsletters by attending Comdex and APCUG events. I pulled additional information when I found it from these publications. The list also provides interested OS/2 vendors with a handy, easy way to target potential future presentations of their products. I've got these meetings listed in a calendar format in our hard copy. In a future INF version, I may figure out how to do that, too. We try to list known OS/2 User Groups whenever we get the information. Of course, we can't be responsible if the information proves to be unreliable -- you, the reader are our best source of this information. ═══ 1.6.2. Due to the closing of several IBM sites, we were unable to continue using IBM facilities. We have, however, secured the sponsorship of INACOM, Inc. -- a major national reseller of software, computer systems and supplier of consulting services. We regard this as a step up rather than a step down, because although we value the goodwill of IBM, the group's prestige can only be improved by independent sponsorship. We see the devotion of INACOM to OS/2 as a sign of OS/2's general acceptance in the corporate community, and through their sponsorship, hope to prove that OS/2 is truly used outside of IBM. Meeting dates will continue to be the second Tuesday of every month, at 7pm. Starting January 11, 1994, the meeting site for the N. NJ OS/2 Users Group is: INACOM, Inc. 710 Route 46 East 2nd Floor Fairfield, NJ 07004 Phone #: 201-227-0201 Inquiries about the Northern NJ OS/2 Users Group should be directed to: Jason Perlow Phone: (201)224-7605 Internet: PERLOWJ@DELPHI.COM TALENTED AND DEVOTED OS/2ERS NEEDED We would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season, and we hope to see you January. In the coming months, the group's direction will take some radical turns. We believe we are on the verge of incorporation, and concurrently with that the creation of extended membership benefits. What we need is people. We have had the will to make this transition for quite some time, and have had good attendance, but continue to lack a strong and devoted core of volunteers who are willing to go beyond the call of duty in the donation of their time. If you are interested not only in OS/2, but being on the cusp of new developments and software, and have an interest or skill in adminsitration, please contact me, Jason Perlow at the E-mail address or phone number above. We are looking for people to serve in the capacities of Membership Secretary/Treasurer, Legal & Public Affairs Secretary, Assistant Vendor Contact Officer and Publicity Officer/Corporate Liason. Our current devoted core of 4 officers is not enough, so please express any interest you might have in assisting us. ═══ 1.6.98. Discuss the wants and needs of those present as to what the group would like to accomplish. Have folks sign up to work toward those goals. Some ideas would be a president, possibly a treasurer, someone to line up demonstrations, etc. Please think about these things before the meeting. 7:30-9:00 OS/2 videotape presentation. This is the HAL/PC OS/2 vs Windows NT Shootout from May of 1993 (Modified to remove the Windows NT portion at the request of Microsoft). A good demo of OS/2's capabilities, leaning toward the new features in OS/2 2.1 as the original audience was already somewhat OS/2 aware and version 2.1 had just come out. ═══ 1.6.139. By Jason Perlow & Jonothan Lurie Northern New Jersey OS/2 User Group Announcer: Hey boys and girls! Its Arnie, the Big Blue Dinosaur! He used to be a DOS Dinosaur, And then a Windows one, But he'll tell you more about this himself! Announcer, again: And here he is, the one, the only, the bluest, The most Jurassic, Its Arnie, the Big Blue Dinosaur! (APPLAUSE) Arnie (in Big Blue Austrian Voice): Hallo kiddies. I hope since last ve met you have not been BAAAAAAD. Because if you were, I will not sing delightful children's songs for you. No? You have not been baaaaaad? Den here ve go! ARNIE, THE BIG BLUE DINOSAUR'S THEME (Sung to melody of Yankee Doodle, which was also stolen by that phony and shallow imitator, Barney the Purple Dinosaur) "Arnie is a Dino-saur An OS/2 Sensation DOS he used to use all day Which led to his frustration. Then to Windows he did switch Hoping for some tasking From which use he did find out That UAE's were massing. Arnie is a Dino-saur Who needed a good GUI And after using Win 3.1 All he could say was "Phooey" By now Arnie was fed up Ready for destruction Un-til March of '92 With 2 point o's production. Arnie now could multi-task In Protected mode instructions Seamless use of Windows code In DOS mode emulation! Arnie now was glorified By 2.1's introduction En-hanced mode, it now could do So who needs Billy Gates now? MMPM came with it As did stuff galore CD installs made it quick And NT was a bore! So now Arnie did turn Blue Ready for the Workplace Until then he'll use "Slash-2" And gobble Micro-softies!" Announcer: And now boys and girls, as if you hadn't had enough, Arnie is back with another one! OS/2, Is For Me... If youre smart, OS/2 Is the thing that you should do OS/2 is the system for me No more money to Bil-ly!" Arnie: Und now, boys und girlies,I'm going to PUMP UP your intellect with a poem I wrote. Windows is a official copyright of Microsoft Corporation, but who cares? Arnie The Dinosaur is a fictional character, and any resemblance to anyone living or dead is completely intentional, but is parody and covered by many supreme court decisions. Billy is a common name, and could belong to any of millions of Americans. Chicago, Cairo and Daytona are names of cities, and thus we freely use them. N and T are letters of the alphabet, and thus are useable by anyone. Windows are openings on houses that are not doors, Austrians are not meant to be portrayed in a negative light, and we believe that the Purple Dinosaur concept originated with Dino, and that Barney was actually Fred's best friend. Humor is an arcane concept not well understood on electronic networks, and thus we feel it is necessary to explain that this is humor. If you feel that it is tasteless, well just don't read it. And, Why would I want one? CompuServe is one of the largest and most comprehensive on-line services around, unfortunately, because of its text mode interface, it can be confusing and expensive if you try to navigate all of it manually. Much of what CompuServe offers carries no extra charges; however, many of the most popular features charge extra connection fees. CompuServe's special interest group and vendor forums are billed by the minute. A forum is just like a BBS conference, but each also includes its own file areas. Messages and files are exchanged in the forums. The charges can rack up fast if you are being billed $12 an hour while you type in a message with just two fingers. (Screen capture from Golden CommPass Version 2.0E) That's where automated navigation programs come in. The navigation program dials your modem, logs on to CompuServe, and retrieves your requested messages or files. You just sit back and watch while the navigator, performs its requested actions, and then logs off. Since the navigation manager can send text to CompuServe at the modem connection speed, (say 9600 bps) the navigator can send text at 900 characters per second. This means that you don't rack up as large of a connection bill, and you can save much more than the cost of the navigation manager on connect time charges if you use the forums much. Downloading, installing, and running the program. This version of Golden CommPass (GCP to save my fingers) is a 32 bit, multithreaded program, written just for OS/2 2.0 or higher. Golden CommPass uses icons to represent actions that are waiting to be performed. These icons are all kept in the main GCP window. A book is used to represent unread mail or forum messages; a clipboard for forum subject lists, an envelope for pending mail, and others for weather maps, file uploads and downloads. This way, CompuServe activities can be performed with the click of a mouse instead of typing commands while on the clock. Creative Systems Programming's upgrade policy for Golden CommPass was very generous; I just download the newest version from CompuServe at no cost except for the usual CompuServe connect time charges. After I downloaded the zip file, I unzipped it, read the READ.ME file, and then ran the installation program. The installation program is new for this version, and is a PM program itself. The installation was smooth, and since I had a previous version of GCP on my system, the installer stopped and asked if I wanted to overwrite my existing configuration and address book files. I selected not to overwrite them in order to save myself from having to configure the program again. The first time I ran the program, it crashed and OS/2 had to end it. What caused this I don't know, but it has not crashed again since that first time. Since I elected not to overwrite my configuration file, I had to convert it to GCP's new format. This was very simple; I only had to open the settings notebook and click on 'convert.' Then I tried calling CompuServe. Golden CommPass dialed, logged on, and searched all of the forums that I already had setup. After the first forum's messages where download, the messages where sorted, and an icon for them created in the main GCP folder. All of this was done while GCP was downloading messages from a different CompuServe forum. This way I can read messages from one forum while the program is still downloading messages or files from a different one. GCP created icons in its main folder for each of the forums that I visited. It also created icons for the What's New feature and a couple of weather map GIF's that I told it to retrieve. A GIF viewer isn't included in GCP, but any DOS, Windows, or OS/2 based viewer can be used from within GCP simply by clicking on the map icon. After reading a few messages, I decided that I should reply to one. I clicked on the 'Reply' icon of the message reader, and replied away. When I finished my message, I only had to select 'Mail' and a new envelope icon representing mail waiting to be sent was created in the GCP folder. The next time that I logged onto CompuServe, my message was automatically posted in the correct forum. The message reader is somewhat customizable. Command bar type icons can be placed across the top with each ones function determined by the user. I've got mine set for functions like: Save, Mail, Paste, Quote, Index, Back, Next, and Scroll. With this setup, I find that I can easily move about, read, and reply to messages. This new version also sports several new features. GCP's new message archiving makes the task of saving or deleting specific messages much easier. I just select the messages that I want saved, and when I'm done reading that forum's messages, GCP copies my selected messages into a different file for permanent storage. GCP can also be setup to automatically delete messages that are over a certain age or below a specified message number. This keeps my hard drive from becoming overcrowded with old, unneeded messages. Downloading files is a snap. GCP will create a file catalog of any forum I choose. Then, I can read through the file descriptions while I'm off line, and pick the ones I want to download with the click of the mouse. When the file is downloaded, GCP can store a short one-line file description as part of the files extended attributes. This means that, a month later, after I forgot what the heck that file is, I can open that file's notebook and read a brief description. The file description can also be stored as a 4OS2 description if I choose. Intelligent subject marking is another feature new to this version. I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but it seems pretty useful. Intelligent subject marking can keep track of which subjects you like to read about and which ones you usually skip. This marking can be enhanced with the addition of exclude or include keywords. In other words, while in the automobile forum, I can tell GCP to always download messages that have 'Corvette' in the subject and to skip those which have 'Pinto'. This is done on a forum by forum basis so that each forum has its own set of marking instructions. The address book doesn't handle non- CompuServe address very well. This is stated as a known shortcoming in the documentation and it is supposed to be enhanced in a future version. Internet bound messages must also have their addressing manually corrected since the message reader doesn't correctly format the TO: field for CompuServe's internet mail gateway. The communication engine also seems to be a bit of a CPU hog when compared to other communication programs. This may not be noticeable on faster computers, but it does make my poky 386sx sluggish while performing certain actions. Even though this program has room for further improvement, this new version of Golden CommPass goes a long way in making CompuServe friendlier for both the novices and advanced users. It can save you many dollars a month in connection charges, or allow you to do more without increasing your bill. If you have an older version of Golden CommPass, definitely get this version. If you are a registered user and download GCP from their CompuServe forum, the upgrade is free. Their new forum GO word is GCPSUPPORT, but you must first send a message to them at 71511,151 requesting access to the registered users' forum. If you don't already have Golden CommPass 2.1, it can be purchased from them through their forum, or by calling (609) 234-1500 or even by snail mail at: Creative Systems Programming Corporation P.O. Box 961 Mount Laurel, NJ 08054-9373 ═══ 1.8.2. Zip Engine ═══ Zip Engine OS/2 Shareware From October 1993 Hobbes CD ROM By Dave Sichak San Diego OS/2 User Group P.O. Box 13346 La Jolla, CA 92039-3346 I use Xtree Gold 2.5 for the most part to copy, move, delete, rename or sort files. It's simple and easy to use. I've tried Norton Commander PM but it lacks one feature - the ability to zip/unzip and view zipped archives - that would enable me to replace Xtree. Even Xtree now has a limitation - it only handles PKZIP Version 1.10. Which meant I had to often go to the command line to unzip an archive zipped with PKZIP Version 2.04G. Having picked up the latest Hobbes CD ROM of OS/2 Shareware at the Del Mar Computer Show in December, I decided to see what I could find in terms of a utility to use OS/2 and PKZIP 2.04G. That's when I came across Zip Engine . The "introduction" in the ZIPENG.DOC file contains a description of what this program is meant to do: "Welcome to The Zip Engine. This Program was developed specifically to provide a graphical way to use command-line based compression/decompression programs." The authors go on to state that their program is unusual in that you can not only do what ever you do with PKZip, but also learn it, too as many of the steps as I found contain a description of what to input from your end and then show you what it would look like on the command line. Imagine being able to tell your friends how to type out the most intricate PKZip/Unzip commands?! I found it easy to use. I was able to successfully unzip a file to the directory I wanted, to unzip just certain files from an archive and to zip files or add files to an archive. Unlike many apps where all the action takes place in one "Window" like your favorite spreadsheet or word processor, each command brings up a new window that is part of a logical sequence. Zip Engine was developed by the folks at Midlands OS/2 Enhancement Society (MOSES) - Kari Jackson and Bart Toulouse in March 1993. It requires OS/2 2.0 or later, VREXX (Visual Rexx, free IBM Employee Written Software (EWS)), PKZip Versions 1.10 or 2.04G (or other compression programs that use the same command line switches and having the ATTRIB command available in the PATH statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. The program is relatively compact - only seven files totalling just over 150k of space on your disk. It's Shareware - not Freeware. Registration is a mere $10 - they promise not to arrest you or sue you - your guilty conscience will bother you if you don't register. Give it a shot and give them some encouragement. ═══ 1.8.3. CustEPM ═══ CustEPM & IPF Tagging By Dave Sichak San Diego OS/2 User Group P.O. Box 13346 La Jolla, CA 92039-3346 I've been asked several times what I use to code the INF version for our newsletter with the *.IPF tags. I've experimented a bit in the past with various ideas - it's sometimes why I delay the release of the INF version of the newsletter. Mike Silverton and David Lents told me about a file called "CSTEPM.ZIP" - an IBM Employee Written Software (EWS) add-on to the OS/2 Enhanced Editor or its "nickname" - EPM. Now, it's not just for doing *.IPF tags . And what it does is add several more actions to your EPM menu. How do they get added? Simple - just copy the archived files into the x:\os2\apps subdirectory where x: is the drive you have OS/2 installed. Then open up EPM and you have some new "actions". But that's not all - you select "GML Tags" and in an instant you have another menu title on the menu bar - "GML". With the graphics attached I tried to show you what gets added. Those of you who code INF files will recognize some of the "names". Notice which tag is at the top of the menu - "paragraph" - just happens to be the most common one used right? And being at the top it makes it easy to use with the mouse. My beef with it is that it will insert a carriage return before placing the ":p." paragraph tag. It probably doesn't mean anything to the compiler, but I'd prefer it just added the tag - the blank line is already there between paragraphs when I've imported the ascii file to EPM. Perhaps it makes more sense if one was typing the code line by line instead of starting with an ascii file. The next most common tag I probably use is the "highlight phrase" tag as its named on the menu here. What that tag does is give the text it's look such as italics, boldface, bright blue highlight, red text or purple/pink text, underline, etc. There's nine different tags you can use but the menu for some reason only includes four. But it does work the way I'd like it to. Highlight your text block then select the tag you want, say boldface. It adds the tag (:hp2.) before the block and the end tag (:ehp2.) after the block, just the way I'd do it. Other aspects are not as useful. I've come to like the "defintion list" quite a bit in certain situations but all it does is give you the four basic codes on four different lines. Fine if you're coding from scratch, but I'd rather see it give me a choice of the tags by highlighting the text then placing the tag I've picked. CustEPM is an OS/2 Tool and best of all free and used on an "as-is" basis. It was developed by Larry Margolis. The file " CSTEPM.ZIP" contains 29 files that will occupy about 296,000 bytes of disk acreage. Overall, I'd say it's an improvement in *.IPF tagging, but to me it doesn't work the way I'd like. What does that mean? I continue my search and await the new version of HyperWrite which I am intrigued by. I expect a few more late nights trying that one out. I'm tempted to try one idea I've had - create word processor macros for the tags. Come to think of it, isn't there another add-on to EPM that will do that? And what about the spell-checker add on? If you ask me, if more add-ons get developed you might just get one of the most customizable and useful word processors around. You just can't underestimate the power and versatility of EPM. Now excuse me while I go climb back into the cellar with a pitcher of mango iced tea and crank out a few INF newsletters. Some day I may be satisfied with one of those creations. Not! ═══ 1.9. Perhaps the single most important new feature is OS/2's ability to allow users to run Windows 3.1 in standard or enhanced modes. You can run multiple Windows sessions simultaneously or run one Windows sessions which runs multiple programs. At the same time, you can run DOS and OS/2 apps, each in their own session. Because each runs in protected memory, there is no chance of a problem in one session affecting anything in other sessions running simultaneously. Dave Fisher's list is a compilation of OS/2 BBS's across the world. If you wish to make an addition or correction to his list, he's asked that you please netmail your BBS information to Dave Fisher at LiveNet, 1:170/110@fidonet.org. For the newsletter, I've sorted the in alphabetical order by Country for the international ones and by state for those in the USA to make it easier to find one close to you. His file has other details related to these BBS's but we didn't have room, okay? The file we're using showed that the last update was September 7, 1992. Does anyone know if this list of his is being kept up to date? I hope to expand it more next month; ran out of time. But I've got his list in a database right now and I'll be able to code that list a lot easier next month. Hope you find this inclusion useful. Large phone bills are not my fault...!!! ═══ 1.11.2.
