X-FILE FOR OS/2 - 1.4 UPDATE
September 11, 1998 - X-File, "The Open File Dialog Fixer", is a
desktop enhancer which adds major enhancements to the standard OS/2
microscopic "open/save as" file dialog. Nothing paranormal here - just
real useful stuff.
X-File runs under OS/2 3.0 or later, is small and non-intrusive, and will
save you from the merrily-we-scroll-along syndrome. Works with many apps
such as DeScribe, System Editor and SmallEd - see list below for more. Another
must-have X utility from the company that gave you X-it and Matrix.
WHAT'S NEW
Enhancements
- Added file copy/move (background threads) to right mouse button popup
menu.
- Added dir rename/del to right mouse button popup menu. Select a dir
first.
- Added error reporting to file/dir operations (rename, del, etc).
- Added default path to command line options. eg. "xfile.exe c:\mydoc"
would set the default path to "c:\mydoc" when an open file dialog is
activated.
Bug Fixes
- Fix for X-File buttons (dir history, etc) not appearing under drive
buttons.
- Fixed Drives drop down control for large drive lists with smaller
dialog size (bug description: control was moved to wrong area of
dialog).
- Fix for default file viewer and file manager not displaying on top of
windows (z-order).
- Fix for default file viewer not loading correct association under
Object Desktop.
- Fix for last window position not saved (occured on certain systems
only).
- Fix for drive buttons too narrow at higher resolutions.
- Added SOFFICE.EXE to exception list (Star Office 4.0).
- Added ORG32.EXE to exception list (Lotus Organizer 4.0).
LIST OF FEATURES
- Replaces the tiny "open/save as" file dialog with a full height dialog
that is user customizable - prevents Carpal Scroll Syndrome by showing
more files and directories.
- Drive buttons at the top of every "open/save as" file dialog. Single
click moves you to that drive.
- History buttons for last files and directories accessed.
- A Frequent Directories button (quicklist) - jump to your favorite
directory in two mouse clicks!
- File Viewer button lets you view the current selected file using either
your favorite viewer, or the default WPS viewer for that file object.
- File Manager button lets you access the current selected directory
using either your favorite file manager, or the default WPS file
manager (folder is opened).
- All of the above functions/buttons are also accessible with a popup
menu (right mouse button or Shift-F10).
- File copy, move, rename, delete, shred and undelete functions
- Directory create, delete and rename functions.
- File info status line (file date, time, size, attributes).
- Change the fonts for the file and directory lists - use a really small
font to really cram in all those files/directories.
- Both the "Drives" and "Type of File" drop down lists are lengthened to
fit the entire list on the screen - no more scrolling here either!
- Dialog Enhancer support.
This utility will enhance many existing applications, such as DeScribe,
System Editor(E), Enhanced System Editor (EPM), SmallEd, Mesa/2, Home
Page Publisher, PMMail, BackAgain/2, FM/2, HTML Studio, PhotoGraphics,
Netscape/2, Program Commander/2, NeoN Grafix Lite, PMJpeg, Adobe Acrobat,
