It should support DOS/WinOS2 sessions, when it becomes available (sorry, I don't know any more about that). I would suggest installing the old SB16 (most of them work well with OS/2), until the DOS/WinOS2 support becomes available. You should be able to have both cards installed, and use the SB with the DOS VDM, and the Solo-1 with OS/2, as long as you have enough resources (IRQs etc.) to do that. As far as hardware goes, this is probably one area that causes the most disagreement. Everyone has their favorites, but rarely do you see a discussion where just about every card will have someone who loves it and someone who thinks it's a piece of... Anyway, I've done a little research and this is what I've come up with so far. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I don't need anything really sophisticated, but I would like to have WinOS2 support so that I can use the 16bit Real Player. I would prefer a PCI card, since the Motherboard I would eventually like to get will have many more PCI slots than ISA {for one reason}. Here's my list so far. Aureal Vortex 1-based card - No WinOS2 Support, Mixer is available Aopen AW230 PCI Sound Card with Software Wavetable -Crystal CS4280 PCI audio accelerator chipset, Wavetable not supported under OS/2. No mixer. Aopen AW320 PCI Sound Card with Hardware Wavetable Crystal CS4614 Audio Processor with CrystalClear Stream Processor DSP core technology, Wavetable not supported under OS/2(?). No mixer. Aopen AW37 ISA Sound Card - Crystal CS4235 with 3D Sound, Not certain if Wavetable is supported or not. ESS Sound Cards - I thought that there wasn't any WinOS2 Support, but I have recently heard that at least some of the chipsets do have this support. Sound Blaster - Newer cards do not have drivers, older, un-used, cards are hard {but not impossible} to find. Crystal was supposed to release a PCI sound card of their own, but there doesn't seem to be any information about it. ----------------------------- Richard R. From: nate@lcs.mit.edu (Nathan Liskov) I had a related problem with my AOpen320 card. After I got sound working in OS/2, I noticed it was not working in WINOS2 and would not work with MP3 programs. I tried warpamp and Dink's Z program. Z reported that there was no device driver. WINOS2 reported that the device drivers were loaded. I then used the alternate install method (described in the readme.txt file with the drivers): 1. erase the mmos2 structure 2. reinstall multimedia from warp cd 3. reapply fixpack (fixpack 12 in my case) 4. reinstall crystal drivers After this sound works ok in winos2 and with both mp3 programs. My next challenge is to get realaudio working. I've tried win3.1 versions 3.0, 4.1 and 5.0. In all cases, I get either a stack error or a windows protection error. Any suggestions? For what I know several Epson scanners work pretty well with ImpOS2, but I can give no guarantee for that. On Warpstock Europe I saw a GT-7000 working with ImpOS2 2.1 and that's all. Have a look at Epson *Germany's* homepage, since one of their staff members is in my local TeamOS/2 group and pushes the OS/2 support for Epson products. I really can recommend the GT-7000 (I'm using it myself) and since I bought it 2nd hand half a year ago it proved very well: the default settings are pretty good and the speed is ok. With the free SANE/PMSANE, which is the solution for me, you will soon able to use even some extra functions like Automatic Document Feeder (an additional thing which requires additional payment ;-) and more. > Apparently the Scanmaker IIsp is no longer available... If you prefer a solution from Microtek instead, I can't recommend any since I don't know any. All I can say about them is that the scanner drivers within ImpOS2 are kind of a generic thing, which makes them work with so many different models of each brand. If you know someone using a newer Microtek scanner, why don't you try it out? This approach is what I do because it guarantees that previous drivers are gone. But I would do step 4 before step 3. Also, when you do step 3, be sure that you do not have a sound card selected when you install multimedia services. When you reapply fixpack 12, the service tool should examine the system and only apply the files necessary to update MMOS2 and not all of the fixpack 12 files. > > My next challenge is to get realaudio working.
