IBM* offers a comprehensive set of LAN Software products and support
for building and managing large to small networks.  This guide provides
you with information about these products and support.  It is a guide
that helps you understand why and how IBM LAN Software solutions
can help you in your business, no matter what your industry might be.


The LAN Software Buyer's Guide can be viewed online from OS/2* or from
Windows**.  Users with OS/2 2.0 or higher view the book by executing the
OS/2 "VIEW" command.  Users with Windows 3.1 or higher view the book
by executing the "XVIEW" command packaged with the LAN Software Buyer's
Guide. 


The instructions on the diskette label describe how to view the guide from
the diskette.  The Buyer's Guide also may be installed on your hard drive for
faster access and future reference.

	
OS/2 users:
==========

 1.  340 Kbytes of free hard drive space is required, with OS/2 installed
     on the C drive.
 2.  Install the guide from diskette to your hard drive.
	
	You may install the Buyer's Guide one of two ways:

	1)  To add the book to your OS/2 bookshelf, insert the diskette in
	    floppy disk drive A and enter the following command from an 
	    OS/2 command prompt:

		copy a:lanbuyer.inf c:\os2\book\lanbuyer.inf     

	    After loading has completed, from an OS/2 command prompt
	    enter the following command to view the guide:

		view lanbuyer

 		
	2)  Create an object on your desktop:

	     -- Insert the diskette in floppy disk drive A.
	     -- Open the OS/2 SYSTEM folder by double clicking the left
                 mouse button on the OS/2 SYSTEM icon.	
	     -- Open the DRIVES folder by double clicking the left mouse
		 button on the DRIVES icon.
	     -- Open the DRIVE A folder by double clicking the left mouse
     		 button on the DRIVE A icon.
	     -- Drag the lanbuyer.inf book to the desktop:
                 -  Select the book by single clicking the left mouse button
                    on the LANBUYER.INF icon.
                 -  Hold down the right mouse button and drag the 
                    LANBUYER.INF icon to the desktop.  
  
	     To view the book (OS/2 2.0 users):
	     -- Select the book by single clicking the left mouse button on 
	         the LANBUYER.INF icon.
	     -- Display the pop-up menu by single clicking the right mouse
	         button while the mouse pointer is on the LANBUYER.INF icon.
             -- Select OPEN.  Another pop-up menu will display.
	     -- Select VIEW.

	     To view the book (OS/2 2.1 or higher users):
	     -- Select the book by single clicking the left mouse button on 
	         the LANBUYER.INF icon.
	     -- Open the book by double clicking the left mouse button on
	         the LANBUYER.INF icon.
        

Windows users:
=============

 1.  870 Kbytes of free hard disk drive space is required, with DOS
     and Windows installed on the C drive.
 2.  Install the guide and the XVIEW utility from diskette to your hard 
     drive.

	1)  Insert the diskette into floppy disk drive A.
	2)  Go to the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER window and do
            the following:

             -- From the menu bar select FILE
             -- From the FILE pop-down menu select RUN
             -- In the dialog box enter the following command, and 
                 then select OK.

		      a:install.bat

                 NOTE:  The above command will create a subdirectory 
                          named LANBUYER on your C drive.  Then, it 
                          will copy the LAN Software Buyer's Guide and 
                          the XVIEW utility to the LANBUYER subdirectory.

    
 3.  View the guide.
	
	1)  Create Program Group and Program Item icons: 

             -- From the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER window, select 
	         FILE from the menu bar.
	     -- From the FILE pop-down menu, select NEW.
	     -- In the NEW PROGRAM OBJECT window select 
	         PROGRAM GROUP and then select OK.
	     -- In the PROGRAM GROUP PROPERTIES window dialog
                 box enter the following and then select OK.
		  
		      Description:  IBM LAN Software Buyer's Guide
                      Group File:   lanbuyer.grp		
	          
	     -- The IBM LAN SOFTWARE BUYER'S GUIDE window 
                 will appear and be the active Program Group.    
 	     -- From the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER window, select 
	         FILE from the menu bar.
	     -- From the FILE pop-down menu, select NEW.
	     -- In the NEW PROGRAM OBJECT window select 
		 PROGRAM ITEM and then select OK.
	     -- In the PROGRAM ITEM PROPERTIES window dialog
                 box enter the following and then select OK.

		      Description:  View IBM LAN Software Buyer's Guide
                      Command line:
                          c:\lanbuyer\xview.exe c:\lanbuyer\lanbuyer.inf
		      Working Directory:   c:\lanbuyer

  
	     To view the book, double click the left mouse button on the 
             "View IBM LAN Software Buyer's Guide" icon.
