SORTVIEW.CMD FEB 20,1994 release 2 C>BLACK, B.STONE,KUTEK KUTEK ,PO BOX 261 ,FORKED RIVER, NJ 08731 This is a maintenace release. The only changes in this version are minor modifications to pgm output format, and the inability to write to non folder EAs with SORTVIEW. TYPE SORTVIEW at an OS2 prompt for help and parameters. BACKUP YOUR EAs BEFORE USING SORTVIEW !!!!! This pgm will allow you to set the sort attribute of the folders on your system, the permanent view with which a folder opens in the wps(icon ,tree or details),the bacground image type(solid color, tiled, or scaled)and the image scale factor. it is intended to be used with the selector function in BLKOS2 to change all the settings throughout your system in one simple process, though it can also be used standalone or with other OS2 command shells or recursion utilities. AS always, it is wise to have a system or EA backup before using this pgm, but it is generally safe. it works by writing directly to undocumented EA subkeys in a FOLDER'S .Classinfo EA.Note that if you have never opened a folder before from the wps or changed it's settings the folder will not have any EAs.Thus all such folders on your system will have the default EA data that is written by the system when they are first opened written directly to them by SORTVIEW. IMPORTANT NOTE:back up your Eas using eg EABACKUP or lh32 until you have verified that this pgm is safe on your system. No irreversible harm can be done by the program to your system which cannot be corrected by EA restoration from a suitable backup. You will have to restart the WPS to get the settings to take effect-do this with a process kill utility such as killem ie killem pmshell.the wps will autorestart and the new views will be available.Mole ,Slay, Kill etc are also suitable, as is rebooting. EXAMPLES: to use with BLKOS2 to change all folder settings on your system to sorted by size with details view as the standard view type at the BLKOS2 prompt: sortview ]@[[*[ ssz d when the selector comes up select the Destop dirs and subs and invert the tags by hitting ALT left arrow and press enter. All remaining folders on your *system* will be modified to these default settings. to change the \os2 folder's settings to unsorted tree view type sortview X:\os2 soff t where X is the boot drive letter. to change a group of files on the current drive to sorted by name and icon view using the BLKOS2 selector TYPE: sortview ]@[*[ sna i select those folders of interest and press enter. for a single drive which is not the current drive type sortview ]@[X:[ sna i -> where X is the drive of interest HPFS LONGNAME USAGE: sortview "f:\i am a big directory name" sca i 5 ssz sets the icon view with a scaled image at size factor 5 and sorted by size for this folder.
