Major Features ═══ Here is a short list of major features in version 1.02 of Floppy-Copy: o High-Speed read/write of diskettes o entirely 32-bit PM o multiple copies of a diskette/image o image support DiskImage/OS2Image VMDISK Packed o optional read/write of used sectors only o standard (fast) or extended verify to ensure data-integrity o supports unformatted diskettes o stand-alone quick-format o generates unique serial numbers on each diskette o if the "minimize to desktop" option is enabled, Floppy-Copy can be controlled via icon o advanced multithreading o 2.X fast Semaphores Upon startup, the unregistered version of Floppy-Copy displays the "Product Information" dialog. Apart from that, the unregistered version is fully functional and by no means restricted in any way. The Main Screen ═══ 3. The Main Screen ═══ ═══ Features ═══ o Last Message This field contains valuable status information and keeps you up-to-date on what's happening. o Media Select either a valid diskette drive or an image to read, write or quick-format. o Diskette in RAM If a diskette or an image is ready for writing, label and type are shown. Status information, e.g. current track and head, is also displayed during copying. o Read/Write Click on these buttons to start reading or writing. During reads both buttons will be disabled. The write button is enabled only when there is a complete diskette in RAM. o Stop Select stop to immediately interrupt a read or write process. o Q-Format Click this button to quick-format a diskette. Quick-Format will erase all data on the diskette. Note: This only works with diskettes that have been previously formatted. o The System Menu Click on the diskette-icon in the top lefthand corner of the main window to invoke the system menu. The system menu lets you control the program even if it is minimized to the desktop. You can also open the options and product information dialogs. The Options Dialog ═══ 4. The Options Dialog ═══ ═══ Explanation of Options ═══ Verify Target o Never The target diskette will not be verified. o Standard The target diskette will be verified while it is written. Although this is a bit slower than the previous option, it is recommended to always enable this feature. This selection is default. o Extended After the writing process is finished, all tracks that have been written will be read again and compared with the diskette in memory. This might be a bit safer than standard verify, but it also is slower. Format Target o Never Unformatted diskettes will not be formatted by Floppy-Copy and thus not be written. o If necessary If unformatted media is detected, Floppy-Copy will format the diskette during the process of writing. Although this does take some time, it is very fast compared with regular formatting of diskettes via OS/2's format. This is the default selection. o Always All diskettes will be formatted while writing. Enabling this option is normally not necessary. Image type o Packed Diskette images will be packed using a proprietary packing algorithm. This decreases the size of the image and facilitates distribution via up- or download. o VMDISK The image created by Floppy-Copy will be compatible to the VMDISK format. OS/2 uses this format to create bootable DOS-VDM images. o DiskImage Images will be in DiskImage format. This is a widely used format which can also be read by several other disk-imaging programs. This is the default selection. Type of Read/Write o Read & Write all sectors on diskette The entire diskette will be read into memory and all tracks will be written, whether used or not used. This is the default selection. o Read & Write only used sectors on diskette Only used tracks will be read/written from/to diskette. If the diskette is only partially used, this option will lead to a significant speed increase when reading and writing diskettes. Warning Messages o Warn if target contains data When attempting to write onto a diskette that is not empty, this will generate a message asking for a confirmation. o Warn if disk was not changed after read Floppy-Copy will try to detect whether the diskette in RAM is identical with the diskette in the drive. If so, you will be asked to confirm that it will be written to. o Warn if target type might be incompatible Floppy-Copy provides minimal support for copying diskettes onto diskettes of greater capacity, provided the target has been previously formatted. If this warning is enabled, you will be asked to confirm your selection and Floppy-Copy will try to perform the requested action. o Show additional window on fatal errors Displays an additional popup-window if an unrecoverable error occurs. SAVE will permanently store the new settings. TEMPORARY will keep the new settings active only during this session.
