ConfigMaster - ver. 0.50 (Beta I) --------------------------------- Thank you for trying out the preview version of ConfigMaster. Please make sure to read the entire contents of this file before attempting to run the program itself. Disclaimer ---------- The author assumes no responsibility and will not be held accountable for any damages arising from the use of this product. ConfigMaster is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind either expressed or implied. Use it at your own risk. What Is It? ----------- ConfigMaster is a simple CONFIG.SYS editor, written entirely in REXX. It will run under OS/2 2.0 or higher, including Warp 3.0. Its easy to use point-and-click GUI is meant to minimize the amount of typing/scrolling normally involved in modifying system configuration files. Additionally, the built-in "shortcut" menus provide convenient access to most commonly changed settings. This first beta release is still lacking many important features, particularly good on-line help. Context-sensitive help system is currently under construction and will be made available in the next successive version of ConfigMaster. Plea for Assistance ------------------- Your feedback is crucial to further development of this product. Any suggestions on how to make it better (i.e. more powerful and easier to use) will be greatly appreciated! Short User Guide ---------------- Most menus and toolbar buttons are pretty much self-explanatory. Short tips are displayed on the information line every time the mouse cursor is placed on the top of one of the main window's objects. Commands like cut, paste, copy, file open, etc. behave just like in any other application and as such should be fairly intuitive. Virtually all operations are performed on a per-line basis. Some commonly used tasks are briefly summarized below: 1. Selecting text for editing Clicking on any of the lines in the main scroll box will copy it's contents to the edit box below. Many operations are valid for more than one line. To select multiple lines, hold the Ctrl key down while performing the selections. Adjacent lines may be selected by dragging the mouse vertically in either direction with the left button depressed. 2. Modifying current line The text displayed in the the edit box may be modified as needed. To save the changes, click on the OK button (first one from the left) 3. Moving to a specific line number This may be achieved in two ways: a) by clicking on either of the spin button arrows until desired number appears in the adjacent box. b) by typing the appropriate number directly in the box (followed by Enter) 4. Removing nonexistent directories from the path lines. Invalid entries (i.e. old, long deleted directories) in the lines beginning with LIBPATH=, SET PATH= and SET DPATH= may be automatically removed by the program by selecting Special-Purge from the Edit menu. So much in a nutshell.
