General Information ═══ TIE is an OS/2 PM Aplication for use with OS/2 Warp. The INIT Editor is built to be the most comprehensive initialization file Editor. CAUTION: This program was NOT tested with any other versions of OS/2. Getting Started ═══ Upon starting TIE it is we recommend you open the os2.ini by Clicking the User pushbutton. Become familiar with the entries & ini file structure Prior to Deleting or editing anything. Also to become familiar with the ini file structure open the os2sys.ini file by Clicking the System pushbutton, Click on the PM_Clovers_Colors (Or any of the _Colors Listings) this should allow you to further explore the ini file structure. The Clovers_Colors_Colors Matches the Clovers Color Scheme By opening the Color Scheme you should be able to view the scheme settings and the Keys section and correlate the values. The color Key values are in R G B format with numeric values up to 255 for the default settings. If you examine the DesktopBackgroundBitmap Key you should get a value something like \os2\bitmap\pines.bmp. Many of the ini file entries are not so simple ... ALWAYS BACKUP FILES BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES! Select the backup file to copy the currently select file to a .ibf file. For Example: os2.ini would create a backup file of os2.ibf in the same directory as os2.ini. Be careful, Enjoy TIE, & Don't Forget to Order the Registered Version. ═══ 3.1. Demo Version Limitations ═══ This Demonstration Version of TIE Will allow you to Delete Applications. The limits imposed are at a deeper level of ini file manipulation. 1. You Cannot Save a Collection of ini files for future use. 2. You Cannot Edit the value of Selected Keys, Add Keys or Delete Keys. 3. You Cannot Add Applications. You are able to browse these functions, that are available in the Registered Version. ═══ 3.2. Group Boxes ═══ The TIE Window is separated into 3 Group Boxes: 1. Selected file Information Information on the currently selected file. 2. File Selection & Collection Select files to View and Edit. 3. Edit Options File Editing Options. ═══ 3.2.1. Selected File Information ═══ Selected file information is the Left most Group box in the TIE Window. This Group Box displays the information about the selected .ini file. The Applications List Box displays the applications designated in the currently selected .ini file. When you click on an application the keys associated with the application are displayed as key names in the Keys List Box. To view the value of a specific Key click on the Key and the value will be in the Value of selected Key Entry Field. The System .ini files are easily accessed through the use of the User and Sustem Pushbuttons. The User Button displays the os2.ini file and the System Button displays the os2sys.ini file. ═══ 3.2.2. File Selection & Collection ═══ The File Selection & Collection Group Box Allows you to select other .ini files and it provides a means of retrieving a list of .ini files on drives through a search. To open a file with a regular file dialog Right Click (Context Menu) on the Collected Files Drop Down Combination Box. To Search For & Collect .ini files Select the drives you choose to search, and Ckick While TIE is searching the Collected Files Drop Down Combination Box label will change to "Wait, I'm Collecting Files" & You will have the wait cursor in the TIE window. Upon completion of the search, Browse the Collected Files Drop Down Combination Box & Select a file to view by Clicking on it. This will fill the Applications list for the selected .ini file. the Collect Pushbutton. The Save Pushbutton saves the current list of collected files to the os2.ini file for the next time you open TIE. This Function is for Registered Users. Note: If the Applications List Box is empty the .ini file contains no references. ═══ 3.2.3. Edit Options ═══ The Edit Options Group Box Provides the means to Edit .ini files. The are two Group Boxes Apps & Keys, Each Containing Add & Delete Pushbuttons. To add an App to a currently selected .ini file: Enter the App referance in the Application or Key Value Entry Field .Click on the Add Key in the Apps Group Box. Note: A dummy key ( dummy_key ) will be created for this Application. Note: The value for dummy_key is dummy_key_value. To add a Key select an application in the Applications List Box. Enter The Key Name in the Key Name Entry Field, and the Key Value in the Application or Key Value Entry Field. Click the Add Pushbutton in the Keys Group Box. To Delete an item Select the Item in the appropriate List Box ( Applications or Keys ) , and Click the Delete Pushbutton in the appropriate Group Box ( Apps or Keys ) . ═══ 4.
