Startup Parameters ═══ To specify, which CD ROM to use, please look up the names of the Devices in the MMPM/2 Setup By default, the same CD Rom is used, that is selected as default CDAUDIO in the MMPM/2 setup. Albatros CD Player can be started with a parameter : alb_cd cdaudio alb_cd cdaudio01 alb_cd cdaudio02 alb_cd cdaudio03 alb_cd ... The same startup parameters apply, when you have a changer CD ROM (a CD Rom with a caddy, that can hold up to 10 cd's) Here you can also specify the parameter to select, which CD to play. Note Just in case the player does not start anymore, maybe because you selected the wrong CDAUDIO device in the settings, start the Albatros CD Player with the last "known good" parameter ═══ 3. Main Panel ═══ Click on an area to see the explanation on the display of Albatros CD Player ═══ 4. Popup Menu ═══ By clicking the right mouse button on the main display panel, you will see a popup menu with several options Options - Settings Opens the Options Notebook play / stop / pause Does exactly what is says Program Here you will find another submenu showing you all the programming options available in Albatros. On the main display you will also see the "name" of currently selected program. none Select NONE to stop any type of program playback and allow random access to all tracks on the CD. repeat track Albatros will continuously play the current track. repeat disc Albatros will continuously play the disc from the first to the last Track. repeat sequence Albatros will continuously play a user-defined portion of the disc. During this time you will not be able to select tracks from the music calendar. To select the beginning of the sequence press [ To select the end of the sequence press ] This button can only will be active after [ was pressed. The active sequence to be played will be displayed next to th buttons random play All cd titles will be played in random order (until a different program is selected) intro play Selecting INTRO PLAY will cause Albatros to play the first few seconds of each track on the CD. The length of the time the tracks are played may be customized in the settings notebook, and is set initially to 15 seconds. After all tracks have been played, Albatros returns to the beginning of track 1. program play Here you will be able to play all the tracks chosen in the program setup. Of course albatros cannot play a program, if none was selected in the setup page. The program will be saved for the appropriate CD, and will be loaded the next time, this same CD is in the player again Therefore each audio CD may have a separate program. program repeat Here you will be able to play and repeat all the tracks chosen in the program setup. program random Here you will be able to randomly play all the tracks chosen in the program setup. good - play/random/repeat This is basically the same as the regular programm play, except, that Albatros CD Player will only play those tracks, which you have marked GOOD in the info setup. not bad - play/random/repeat This is basically the same as the regular programm play, except, that Albatros CD Player will only play those tracks, which you have marked GOOD / REGULAR in the info setup. ═══ 5. Options Notebook ═══ Here you can specify several options for the general behaviour of the media player page "info" page "file" page "wave" page "cd" page "program" page "options" page "auto play" page "register" ═══ 5.1. Page "Info" ═══ This page shows an information about the currently playing cd rom with the track titles displayed You can here change a title by pressing ALT-Left Mouse Button on the appropriate entry When you are finished editing the title, just click on a different entry with the mouse, and the changed entry will be saved. Selecting a track and clicking Right Mouse Button will show a popup menu good Mark this selected track as "good" (a track you really love). An "up-arrow" will be displayed in front of the tracks to represent this good track. regular Mark this selected track as "normal". All "new" tracks are treated this way, unless you change the value here. bad Mark this selected track as "bad" (a track you don't like). A "down-arrow" will be displayed in front of the tracks to represent this bad track. Note These definitions are saved along with each CD, and will automatically be loaded again the next time this CD is in the drive again ═══ 5.2. Page "file" ═══ On this page you can import CD title names from an external file file Choose a file from which to import the title data entryfield Enter the title or part of the title in the entry field first ("cult" in this example) search Starts the search in the file for the text which you entered in the entryfield Albatros will also display if the text lines match for import or not. container All found cd rom titles will be displayed here, also Click on an entry in the container, then select Import and the titles will be imported from the file import Only CD titles will be imported, where Albatros shows "Import possible : YES" Other titles will be ignored. For the import file, you will need a file (any name you like, it is HPFS aware) which has the following format (look for the "songs.txt" as an example): CD Title - Band Track 1 Title Artist 1 Track 2 Title # This would be Artist 2 but is blank !! Track 3 Title # Artist 3 BLANK Track 4 Title Artist 4 Track 5 Title # Track 6 Title # Track 7 Title # Track 8 Title # Track 9 Title # Track 10 Title # CD Title - Band Track 1 Title Artist 1 Track 2 Title # This would be Artist 2 but is blank !! Track 3 Title # Artist 3 BLANK Track 4 Title Artist 4 Track 5 Title # Track 6 Title # Track 7 Title # Track 8 Title # Track 9 Title # Track 10 Title # Note The search will only be performed for the CD Title Example A search for sting will find the following cd Cocker,Joe - Stingray The jealous kind # I broke down # You came along # Catfish # Moon dew # but not Gray,David - A Century Ends Shine # A century ends # Debauchery # Let the truth sting # Gathering dust # Wisdom # Lead me upstairs # Living room # Birds without wings # ═══ 5.3. Page "wave" ═══ On this page you can convert your cd rom tracks into WAV Files (which may be played with the Albatros Media Player) If Albatros found that your CD ROM can digitally read out tracks, then you find these options enabled, otherwise these options will not be enabled (and then of course you can't use them) entryfield Type in the Drive Letter of your cd rom, in this example drive H: get tr After you specified a drive letter, press Get tracks which will "disconnect" the player, read out the cd tracks and shows you the name of the tracks in the container (if you specified the track names prior in the "Info" page) container Select now one or more tracks you wish to convert into Wav files. They Wav files will be saved in the same Directory as the Albatros CD Player and have the same name as the CD titles you want to convert. In case you have not entered any CD titles, then the Wav files will be saved as "track1.wav", "track2.wav", etc. write After you selected the tracks, press this button and the conversion process will start re-init After you successfully converted the cd tracks and wish to continue playing the CD, press this button to "re-initialise" the cd player part Note The sampled wave data is stored in 44khz / 16bit / stereo The conversion of a CD track takes the same time that is used to play the track (reads single speed) While you are converting a cd track, you cannot close the settings notebook, and should not close the main player (or "kill" the player otherwise) If Albatros CD Player reports, that the CD ROM can use "digital transfer", this does not neccessarily mean, that the CD ROM also supports Digital Readout ! Many drives do not support Audio CD track reading over the data bus. This ability is more widespread among SCSI drives than among IDE or ATAPI drives. Some CD ROMs claim they can read out digital and even start converting, but then fail on reading the first track (this is due to "el-cheapo" programming of the cd rom). When this happens, you will find a "wav file" with the size of 44 bytes. You can then delete this file, because it contains no data. Known CD ROMs that behave like this are - Mitsumi ATAPI Drives (8* / 12* speed) - Sony IDE Drives (the 56x or 54x Series) Some CD ROMs successfully convert tracks into Wav Data, but the Wav File will sound very "crackling" This is due to incorrect sector recalibration of some drives, along with missing error correction Known CD ROMs that behave like this are - Toshiba 3501b Drives that are reported to work (no guarantee) - Apple CD300 - Sony CDU31a, Sony CDU76e (IDE), Sony CDU76S (SCSI) - Toshiba 3401, Toshiba 3601, Toshiba 3701B, Toshiba XM5201B, Toshiba XM5301TA - Plextor - Nec 6*speed SCSI Drives that are reported not to work - Mitsumi FX001 (IDE) - NEC 2x (SCSI), NEC 3xi (SCSI), NEC CDR-500 (SCSI), NEC512 (SCSI) - Panasonic CR-562B - Philips PCA52R (IDE) - Teac CD55A ═══ 5.4. Page "cd" ═══ Here you can see various Information about Albatros CD Player and the CD. Albatros Version The version of the CD Player. CD Hex ID The internal HEX ID for the CD. Number of Tracks The maximum number of tracks on the CD. Total play time The total play time of the CD in min-sec. Can set volume If the CD Rom drive can set the Audio volume, you will see "YES" otherwise "NO". This value might possibly be incorrect, because some CD ROM's or device driver show wrong values. Can lock eject If the CD Rom drive can lock and eject the CD, you will see "YES" otherwise "NO". CD Device name The name belonging to the CD Rom (you specified on the command line or in the settings). Manufacturer The manufacturer of your CD Rom. This value might possibly be incorrect, because some CD ROM's or device driver show wrong values. (eg MITSUMI: says DEFAULT-DEFAULT ) Digital Transfer If your CD ROM Drive can transfer audio data over the Bus instead of an audio cable connected to your sound card ═══ 5.5. Page "program" ═══ On this page you can select your active Program. left listbox Displays all CD tracks with their title names (if you entered them previously) right listbox Displays all CD tracks in their order you wish to play the program Top String Here you see how many songs you have selected and how many minutes/seconds this program will play. adding a title to the program Double click a track of the left listbox to add this track to the end of your active program of the right listbox. removing a title from the program Double click a track of the right listbox to delete this track from your current program removing all titles from the program (<<) When you press this button all tracks from the active program will be erased. Digital transfer If checked, the CD Player will feature Digital Transfer through your soundcard. you may have to press "STOP" first to activate digital transfer when you change the setting here. Path to mixer Here you can select an external mixer (press File to select mixer file) Intro time Select here how long you wish to listen to the beginning of the tracks when you select the programming option "intro play" Double click to close Here you can specify if you have to double/single click on the "POWER" button to close the player Small Bitmaps This option is intended to be used on smaller display resolutions (640 or 800) or on "patched" displays (e.g. with a patched 1024 display driver), where the icons are no longer 40*40 , but 32*32 in size, and all dialog boxes appear a little bit smaller in size. Small display This option is intended to be used on "patched" displays CDAUDIO Use this drop-down list to select the CD ROM Device you wish to use for playback In case you started Albatros CD Player with a command line parameter, this CD ROM Device will also be displayed here. Note When you are currently playing a CD in one drive (cdaudio) and also have another audio CD in a second drive (cdaudio01), you can select this new device here (cdaudio01), and press eject on the main panel. This will cause the currently playing CD to eject. The CD from the other drive will automatically be loaded after this. This feature can also be used for Jukeboxes, to play multiple audio cd's ═══ 5.7. Page "autoplay" ═══ Here you can select the autoplay options, how Albatros CD Player should behave when the player is started, or when a new CD is inserted after "eject" The selectable options should be self explaining ═══ 5.8. Page "register" ═══ Type in your registration name and code number when you have received your registration key. This information is saved when the Settings Notebook is closed. In case the entered data is correct, the player will be "registered" the next time you start it. Note In case the player still displays "UNREGISTERED" the next startup, make sure you entered the data in the correct form as shown here An example of an incorrect form The easiest way is to copy/paste the data into the appropriate entryfields, when you received an email registration ═══ 6. WPS Integration ═══ You can drop colors from the color palette to the display elements This will work for all display elements shown in the main display You can drop fonts from the font palette valueset This will not work for the text elements shown in the main display, because here no regular OS/2 fonts are used. ═══ 7. License ═══ Albatros CD/Media Player is shareware. You are allowed to test and use this program for 30 days. After this period you must register your copy, if you want to continue to use it. This 30 day period applies only to versions 2.x and above. You may distribute the shareware version of Albatros CD/Media Player, either through electronic media e.g. BBS's or on diskettes. You may charge for the distribution, but not more than $2. You may distribute only the complete and unaltered archive as supplied by the author. You may install the registered version on more than one machine. However, you must make sure that it is only used on one machine at a time. As soon as one license is used on more than one machine at a time, you need additional licenses. The author does not guarantee for the correctness of the program. The author also may not be held responsible for any loss of data or other damages caused by the use of Albatros CD/Media Player. The author does not guarantee that the program can be used for a specific purpose. If you like to distribute the program in conjunction with commercial software or hardware ("bundling"), you must have a written permission of the author to do so. If Albatros CD/Media Player is to be included in a collection of other freeware or shareware programs on CD-ROM or diskette, written permission by the author is required and a free copy of the cd rom has to be send to the author as a proof of the shareware concept. If you aquired this licence to update a licence for a previous version, the licence for the previous version thereby expires. A licence always is a version licence, i.e. it is valid for all versions of the program that have the same major version number. You need to aquire a new licence when the new version has a major version number that is different from that of the older version. You're not allowed to give a registration key to third parties. If you distribute this program in compressed form ("archived"), you must use a format that supports long file names and extended attributes. Program Versions that are explicitely labeled "BETA" are NOT to be put on any CD ROM nor are they to be sold for ANY AMOUNT of money. norbert heller (1997) ═══ 9.
