Startling...baffling...shocking....just another regular day in Los Angeles. But not for Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff), who thinks he has seen it all during his twenty years as a southern California lifeguard and now as a partner in a detective agency. When mysterious newcomer Diamont Teague (Dorian Gregory) -- a Ph.D. in paranormal psychology who works for an unnamed, highly secret organization -- enlists the help of Mitch, Ryan (Angie Harmon), Griff (Eddie Cibrian) and Donna (Donna D'Errico) in cases under his jurisdiction, Mitch starts to experience things that are more than just out of the ordinary. Sure, there's strangeness out there -- that's nothing new. But this is something, well, frightening as well.
They're being pulled into a whole new dimension -- one filled with unexplained phenomena; a dimension where the thin line between this world and another is constantly being blurred and often crossed. Their investigations involve answers that can't be found in mere detective work alone. These are cases that are outside the norm, with strange new conditions and unknown parameters; cases that lead them into a darkness that makes sense only to those who choose to accept it.
Can they accept it? It depends on who you ask.............
Mitch Buchannon- He knows something's not quite right, but doesn't know what to make of it. Still, there are questions to be answered and people to help, and that's all he needs to know.
Ryan McBride- All of her training as a forensics expert tells her what's real and what isn't. With all this weird stuff happening around her, there has to be a rational explanation.... rights?
Griff Walker -He's a young, good-looking hotshot who's just happy to be involved. "Scared" just isn't in his vocabulary....at least not yet.
Donna Marco - A beautiful woman with training as a lifeguard, Donna has hidden agendas, mysterious contacts, and the belief that there's more to things than meets the eye.
Diamont Teague - A believer of all things supernatural, he's the conduit between the world as his colleagues know it and the "truth" they are all beginning to experience.
For Mitch, Ryan, Griff, Donna and Teague, its the beginning of a non-stop journey through the darkest of NIGHTS.........
