'Dear Sir', a magazine written by its readers

Faith Hines

Adapted extract from publicity material.

Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells has come into his or her own at last. The contents of a recently founded publication consists entirely of letters to the editor.

Disgusted, who used to thunder only in the confines of the Times letters columns, and then only if the editor considered his effusion of sufficient merit, can now write to 'Dear Sir' and make sure his or her views are read and discussed by an audience worthy of his talents - everyone a letter writer.

'Dear Sir', thought up by ideas merchant Faith Hines and edited by Fleet Street veteran Johnnie Johnson, costs L15-86 for a year's supply (13 issues).

'Dear Sir' will include the cream of letters from the media on a variety of topical issues plus letters written directly to the editor.

Also planned are visits to the offices of national newspapers and magazines for its readers, and dinners, luncheons, even teas, hosted by eminent writers at elite venues.

There will be an award for Letter Writer of the Year and a trophy for weekly papers for the Letters Page of the Year.
