Biography - Carolyn Hillyer


Carolyn Hillyer is an artist, writer and musician, Known primarily for her strong and inspiring images created in paint, word and song of goddess and deep-woman archetypes. Her wrok explores ancient myth and hidden memory that lie waiting to be discovered within the very stone, wood and earth of the land about us.

Most of CarolynÆs music is formed around the simplicity and strength of the voice and frame drum. Many of her songs have been used by others in chanting groups and dancing circles.

Her most recent project has been a one and a half year journey to paint a circle of thirteen grandmothers of wisdom, large paintings that will sit as a council in exhibition around the country. The songs from these paintings have culminated in the album æ Grandmother TurtleÆ and the æCircle of ThirteenÆ have created their own ancient mythology to be published in a forthcoming book.

Carolyn lives with her partner Nigel Shaw, a composer and musician, in the centre of Dartmoor, Devon, which has been a constant and powerful inspiration for their work.
