Robert Fludd's Mosaical Philosophy was first published in Latin in 1638, and an English edition was prepared and published in London in 1659. The work is a very large tome and consists of a number of essentially separate treatises on various subjects. The first section of the Mosaical Philosophy is an account of the symbolic content of classical philosophy, relating it to biblical texts, and the latter part of the volume is a practical exploration of experiments in magnetism using the lodestone. For this publication we have extracted in full the part of Section II which covers the Cabala. This Fludd divided into two books. In the first book he explores the nature of duality in the creation of the world, the formative spiritual force of God working upon the Dark Chaos, and follows this into the structure of the Soul of the World and the individual soul substance of Man.
The second book is a detailed account of the Cabalistic system looked at in terms of the creation of the world through the various spiritual formative energies of the various hierarchies of Beings. It gives a profound insight into the structure of the Cabala, as it was perceived in the 16th and early 17th centuries, long before the recent synthesis into the hybrid we know today, and thus affords us a most valuable glimpse into a purer formulation of Cabalistic ideas by one of the most important Rosicrucian writers. Fludd as always relates all the ideas he introduces to Scripture and the sayings of the ancient Philosophers.
