- Larissa is the fifth of Neptune's known satellites:
- distance from Neptune: 73,600 km
- diameter: 193 km (208 x 178)
a.k.a. 1989 N 2, 1981 N 1
- Pronounced "LA ree suh"
- Larissa was the mother by Poseidon (Neptune) of Pelasgus.
- Larissa was "officially" discovered in 1989 by
Voyager 2 though it was
observed in 1981 by Dave Tholen and colleagues using
the stellar occultation method.
- Like Proteus, Larissa
is irregular (non-spherical) in shape and appears to be heavily cratered.
