Have him crawl into the fireplace, and monsters will come out.

Hint 3 of 6:

The cook will be afraid of the monsters, but if you help him, he can defend
himself.

Hint 4 of 6:

Give the cook in the pot the axe from the king's chambers.

Hint 5 of 6:

If only you could somehow direct the cook to help you get the skull.

Hint 6 of 6:

When Wolfy is in hiding. send Fulbert up the candlestick near the skull. 
You'll find that it's hanging from a thread.
