Download Photoshop file

Note: we recommend that you save out a new version of the Photoshop animation file before customizing the animation so that if you end up with something you don't like or want to generate a new variation, you can always start over. Of course, you can always download the Photoshop file from the NavWorks site again, but it will usually just be easier and faster if you make your own copies.

The Photoshop file for the Aperture Animation contains 3 possible Highlights and Shadows variations as well a shadows layer. Each set of Highlight, Shadows, and Texture layers are named in sets. For example, the Highlights, Shadows, and Texture layers that go with frame 1 all have the "P1" (for "Position 1") as part of the layer name. Notice that the Highlights and shadows layers can be mixed with one another because they use the Hard Light layer option. You might also want to try adjusting their Opacity for further variations.

To generate the first frame of the Aperture animation, turn on or make visible the "P1" layers that you want to use for your variation.Fill the "Texture" layers with a color or texture that you prefer (remember to have to make sure the "Preserve Transparency" option is on). Select All, Click on one of the visible layers. Choose Copy Merged from the Edit menu. Paste into a new docuement. Continue doing this to create each frame. Be sure and turn off the visibility of any layers that obstruct the layers you need for the current frame you are working on. For example, to generate the second frame, you will need to make all of the "P2" layers invisible. See the tutorials for more information/examples on how to use the layered Photoshop files that come with AniPack 1 to generate GIF and Javascript animations.

One final note: Aperture is designed to have a maximum of 8 frames between fully closed and fully open, although you can remove frames if you need to make the animation's file size smaller. For example, to make a an aperture animation with only 4 frames from fully open and fully closed, only use the layers for frames 1, 3, 6, and 8 (see below). Finally, note that for this animation to loop correctly you will need to make duplicates of many of the layers. For instance, the 7 frame animation would start with frame 1, go to frame 7 and then would go back through frames 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 to loop back to frame 1.
