IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING DOOM 1 & 2 ADD-ON LEVELS CD-ROM This CD-ROM contains two types of add-on accessories or levels for DOOM 1 & 2 registered versions. GENERAL EXPLANATION OF WAD FILES AND ADD-ON PROGRAMS This first type of add-ons are called WAD files. If these files were installed by themselves in Doom 1 or 2, they would be activated all the time, and you would not be able to turn them on or off without adding or deleting these files in the DOOM 1 or 2 directories. This is why a LAUNCH PROGRAM is used, which launches DOOM 1 & 2 with the WAD file you select, but does not keep the file in DOOM 1 or 2 when you are finished playing. Once you have properly installed and configured the LAUNCH program, you can start with the LAUNCH program to run Doom 1 or 2 with any WAD file you select. The list of WAD files on this CD-ROM are contained in the directories \DOOM1WAD and \DOOM2WAD. The second type of add-ons are complete programs which are installed using the separate program installation buttons on this CD-ROM menu. There are seven add-on programs for DOOM 1 and two for DOOM 2. These add-on programs are installed into the applicable DOOM 1 or DOOM 2 directories. They are only activated when the applicable .exe or .bat file is typed from the DOOM 1 or DOOM 2 directory. If you just play the normal DOOM 1 or 2 game, they will not be activated. So you do not need a separate LAUNCH program for these programs. For example, once you install SuperWeapons for DOOM 2, you will notice that an executable file SUPERWEP7.BAT has been added to your DOOM 2 directory. So to launch DOOM 2 with SUPERWEAPONS, just go into the DOOM2 directory and type SUPERWEP7. You can install all the add-on programs at the same time, but you can only play one at a time by typing the applicable .exe or .bat file from the DOOM 1 or DOOM 2 directory. TO INSTALL AND CONFIGURE LAUNCH PROGRAM FOR WAD FILES: 1) From the CD-ROM menu, click on Install Launch Program and go thru install routine. ( To access the CD-ROM menu type D:\HRS (Enter) ). 2) Exit the CD-ROM menu and switch to the C:\UL directory. 3) Type ULRUN, The launch program installation is now complete. 4) To configure launch program, first start program by going to C:\UL directory and typing command UL. You will now be in the launch program main menu. 5) To access launch program configuration menu, press ALT-C. 6) Select GENERAL OPTION and switch ZIPPED WADS to OFF. For Doom 2, go to #8 below. 7) For Doom 1, press PGDN ( Page Down Key ) and change RESPONSE FILE to OFF if you are using Doom 1.2 Registered Version or ON if you are using Doom 1.66 Registered Version. 8) ESC from GENERAL OPTION and select PROGRAMS/PATHS. You will have to type in two paths in the required spaces, one for the DOOM 1 or DOOM 2 path and one for the WAD files path. Foe example, for DOOM 2 your path is probably C:\DOOM2 and your WAD file path is D:\DOOM2WAD, and for DOOM 1 your path is probably C:\DOOM and your WAD file path is D:\DOOM1WAD. Once you have carefully typed in the correct paths, ESC from Programs / Paths. 9) Hit your keyboard's INSERT key. This will add all the WAD files to the Launch program. 10) The hard work is finished - the launch program is configured ! From now on, all you have to do is to type the command UL from the C:\UL directory to start the launch program, and then select any desired WAD file (Enter). Then Doom 1 or Doom 2 will automatically start up with the selected WAD file. To read additional information on the launch program, at CD-ROM drive letter type READ (Enter).
