2.3 Basic Description

When Hefty FTP starts up you are presented with the main screen.

At the top is a toolbar - moving your mouse pointer over the toolbar buttons will display the button's function in the help panel at the bottom left of the window.

On the left of the screen you are shown a listing of your local files and folders above a listing of remote files and folders when you are connected to an FTP site. You may navigate these listings using the popup menus immediately above the list boxes, or by double-clicking on listed folders or links. The local and remote folders that are currently displayed are used as the source/destination folders for any transfers.

On the right of the main screen are status displays and transfer options that you can set appropriately as you go.

At bottom right is "Load Queue" graphic - you may drop local files/folders for upload or remote files/folders for download, or even links from your browser, onto this to load them into the queue.

Once you are connected to an FTP site you may drag files/folders from the local/remote folder listing and drop them on the queue, or on the remote/local listing to load up the queue.

To display the queue, press the toolbar button marked .

The queue screen shows you the files/folders currently queued and allows you to manipulate the queue and watch transfers progressing.

Files/Folders displayed in the main screen, and URLs from external programs, may also be dropped on the Queue List in the Queue Screen for adding to the queue.

2.4 Quick Start

1. Run the program.
2. To do anything useful you need to connect to an FTP site. To do this press the Hosts toolbar button marked .

3. The Hosts screen will appear. For a quick start, enter the FTP site address in the field marked "Site:" and press the "Connect" button near the bottom right of the Hosts screen. The Hosts Screen will be automatically hidden and the connect initiated.

4. Once the connection has taken place, navigate around the local and remote folders, drag and drop a file from the local file listing to the remote file listing, or vice versa.

5. To see the queue window press the toolbar button marked . Press the toolbar button marked to start the queue.

6. File transfers should now begin.

7. You may disconnect the connection in the main screen by pressing the toolbar button marked . This will NOT stop any queue transfers to/from that site, as the queue establishes its own independent connections.

8. Once transfers are complete you can quit Hefty FTP.

This is just a simple session to get you going. Detailed function descriptions are given in the following sections.
