Trouble-shooting
This section of the documentation should answer most of the problems that you
might encounter while setting VirtuaCD up. If you have a problem that isn't
dealt with in this section, please see the Support
page.
- The installer doesn't like the product enabler code
Ensure that you are entering it correctly. The code consists of 3 groups of 6
characters. There are no ONES or ZEROES and it should all be lower case and
not UPPER CASE.
- The installer won't let me install my 5-drive licence code
Ensure that you have entered a base licence first. You cannot install a
5-drive licence code over an evaluation code.
I've installed the software but when I reboot the computer ...
- VirtuaCD or CDtoHD report that the VirtuaCD system has not been
started properly
This is because you aren't running the VCDLoader application. If you are
using a Risc PC, ensure that it has been installed in
$.!Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk. If you are not using a Risc PC, ensure that you
are running VCDLoader as part of your boot sequence.
- I don't get any extra CDFS icons
VirtuaCD doesn't work if you've got CDFS configured for zero drives. You must
configure CDFS for the number of physical drives you are using, plus the
number of virtual drives you want to use. If you don't want to use all of
your virtual drives, be sure to use the VirtuaCD manager to set a drive
limit.
- VirtuaCD complains that it can't find any virtual drives
This is because you haven't reconfigured CDFS for the correct number of drives.
- My SCSI-based CD-ROM drive now has a different drive number
Because of the way CDFS allocates drive numbers to the CDFS drivers (of which
VirtuaCD is one), it is possible that VirtuaCD may be allocated a drive
number in preference to other drives. This is normal behaviour.
- I can't access my SCSI-based CD-ROM drive any more
Either reconfigure CDFS for more drives, or run VirtuaCD and limit the number
of virtual drives you want to have. CDFS cannot auto-detect the correct
number of drives properly, so you have to manually configure the system
appropriately.
