The features in detail:
- Screen size can be changed while playing, at the moment we have 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, but there are no limits
- Additional smaller windows can be opened for guarding or tracking your battle units
- A small map of the whole area is displayed on the status bar, showing all your units/buildings, and everything you know about the enemy
- The surface consists of isometric fields with four height levels
- Your units can only see what's within their radar. So you can hide movements and make really nasty unseen attacks.
- Everything outside the radar of your units is displayed dark.
- Every place never visited before is unknown, ie black. This varies from mission to mission and can be configured in multiplayer mode.
- A configurable pop-up help will be there to please those who don't want to read the manual. Anyway you should be able to understand the controls without having to read a huge manual
Graphics
- Some destroyed units/houses will burn
- Water is animated (and we're thinking about specials like volcanos etc)
- Tanks will leave traces on the ground
- Every laser/projectile/missile is displayed and moved authentically, so you can possibly do things like escape gunfire by running zig-zag (however lasers hit directly).
Gameplay
- Ground units cannot see what's behind hills.
- When a vehicle is running out of fuel, the driver can get out and escape
- Unmanned vehicles can be taken over by soldiers
- Scenery can be attacked, eg trees can be set on fire
- Every single units has its own artificial intelligence
- Units get more skillful as they gain more experience
- You can set up way points for partolling routes etc
- You can give any unit a special mission (eg guard another unit, seek and destroy, patrol...)
- Units can be grouped/ungrouped just like in !Draw (eg groups can be grouped, and when ungrouped, you'll get the smaller groups back again)
- Grouped units get a commander who has his own artificial intelligence
- The units store their weapons/engines etc inside 'podules'. So you can re-configure them as you like (however there will be many 'auto' functions to prevent the game from becoming a single massive configuration session!)
- You can transfer weapons, fuel etc from one unit to another
- Each object (Jeep, house, tree, wall...) has its own strength
- Tanks can crush houses or trees (but this damages the tank as well)
- Factories can have a 'production plan' where you can say 'Build a jeep now, then 3 soldiers, then a chopper...' so you don't have to run to all your factories every 10 seconds to change production orders
- Some units (eg jeeps) can jump over gorges
- When a unit is hit it can't fire for a short time, and is thrown back a bit (this can even lead to falling down a steep slope), this varies with hit objects and weapon strength
Multiplay
- Two allied players can share radar views and therefore see more enemies
- Units can be passed to an ally
Sound
- Many different music tracks from CD
- Sound effects for shooting, explosinos, vehicle movement, scenery (birds, running water, wind in the trees)
- Speech, but not annoying speech but informative speech, like 'Chopper here, we're under attack of 3 robots! We should retreat.'
