Paradise

Paradise worked wonders at the start of 1997 with Inferno, their £9.99 bargain game which features lovely graphics, sound, presentation and gameplay. And now they're following up their success by living up to their pledge to release not just one but a whole host of budget-priced games, with the recent release of more details on the second in the series and the announcement of the third.

Overload pits you as a fearless astronaut set the daunting task of rescuing a race of peace-loving creatures from hordes of invading aliens over 16 levels of mayhem, with the inclusion of the obligatory evil alien bosses and the addition of bonus levels and various other features.

The game is a fast, sideways scrolling shoot'em'up with lots of different weapons, power-ups, plenty of visual effects and, of course, lots and lots of swarms of aliens to destroy.

Featuring full compatibility with all ARM processors, including the StrongARM, the game will run on virtually all systems since it requires only 2Mb of memory and RISC OS 3.1. Due for release late this year, the game is confirmed at the £9.99 budget price.

[Pocket Money]Also scheduled for release into the budget range is a new arcade-style platform game,
Pocket Money, which will allow two players to play simultaneously. No more information on this game is currently available.

The latest news, as of late January 1998, is that after a brief break when the team members left University and started jobs or faced important exams, work is now progressing again on both games, and the game engine and enemy movements in Overload are now complete, with only the level design and front-end remaining. Pocket Money is progressing well, too. One of the members is also working on an exciting project on the Mac, which he hopes will be easy to port to the Acorn once it's finished.
