Help/Introduction

At the top and bottom of each database page are one or two arrows. Click on the left-pointing one to go to the previous page or the right-pointing one to go to the next page. The main 'database' logo will always take you back to the database index. (The arrows at the bottom don't always centre if you're using Fresco, the ANT Internet Suite browser - this is due to a formatting bug in ANT's software). At the bottom of each page is a '32-bit Acorn Gaming' logo which you can click on to return to the main contents page.

All the games in the database are sorted into alphabetical order, indexed by their titles.

Each record has the following form:

Title:

This consists of up to three elements:

• The game's title
• The game's rating (how good the game is)
• The recommended retail price of the game

The last two fields may be absent if the game has not been rated, or if the price is not known. The meaning of the ratings is as follows:

Excellent

Good

Average

Poor

Very bad

Ratings are given based on how good the game is, but also partially on the game price. If a game costing 15 pounds is as good as a game costing 40 pounds, then the one costing 15 pounds will sometimes get a slightly higher rating.

Comments

A brief review of the game and/or some miscellaneous comments are sometimes included

This contains two fields, either or both of which may be absent:

Demo:

This is a link to an FTP site which contains a demo copy of the game, or details of where a demo of the game can be obtained from. Sometimes more than one FTP site is listed.

Review:

This is a link to a full downloadable or WWW review of the game, either on these WWW pages or elsewhere

Supplier:

This is a point of contact for obtaining the game, and is usually the game's publisher. Links to addresses, phone, fax and email contacts are given where possible.

Players:

This is the number of players who can play the game simultaneously - I do not count games which offer a "fake" two (or more) player option, where the players have to alternate turns.

Type:

This is the game genre, or a very brief description of the game type

This lists the game's compatibility with different operating systems and the Risc PC. The various fields are:

RISC OS 3 compatibility information follows (up to, but not including, version 3.5)

RPC:

Risc PC compatibility information follows

StrongARM/RISC OS 3.7 compatibility information follows (if a modification is mentioned then this may be referring to one that either Game On! or StrongGuard performs)

Game On

Game works only with Game On!. This includes games which run too quickly without it.

StrongGuard

Game requires The ARM Club's StrongGuard in order to work

AutoCache

Game requires the free software AutoCache in order to work

Before these fields sometimes a number followed by 'MB' is given - this is the minimum amount of memory the game requires to run ('MB' stands for 'megabytes').
Furthermore, the text 'HD' or 'CD' is also sometimes present in this location, which indicates that the game requires a harddisc or CD-ROM drive respectively.
