R-comp have released their official conversion of iD software's Doom. The game retails at £35 and includes 3 CD-ROMs, Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 2 master levels. Resolutions up to 1024 by 768 are supported with even larger ones possible on the forthcoming Risc PC 2. The game has been dubbed by its authors as 'The best version of Doom on any platform' but we'll have to wait and see if it lives up to this!!
Pre-placed orders are being dispatched on Monday, as soon as there's copies available, you'll see the review here! Your news editor is just about to order his copy now...
Network/internet Multiplay Support:
This area of the Doom port will interest many internet game-payers because there simply aren't that many acorn games that support internet multiplayer modes (yet!).
R-Comp commented on multiplayer modes:
So it looks like it will be a while yet before we can thrash our local PC-owning friends but any acorn users in Leicester with Diamond Cable connections had better watch out!! (we get free phone calls to each other after 6pm you see!)
