Destiny News

Destiny is a walkabout Doom clone for the Acorn. It is being written by Robert Templeman and Robert Alcock, and was due to be released at this year's Wakefield show. However, the Destiny stand was empty at the show so we presume that the game was not completed in time. Once the game is released, Robert Templeman hopes to produce a CD-Rom version. This will (probably) support higher resolutions and may have a few extra features! [ed: Sounds like this version will be aimed at the Risc PC 2?]

These are a few recent screenshots from the game. Thanks to Robert Templeman for allowing us to use these.

Game Plot
The player has to work through each level to find part of a time machine which has self-destructed. Once the pieces are found, the player can return back to his normal time.... To cut a long story short, if it moves, kill it! And pick up all the bonuses on the way!

Game Features
The game features about 10 large levels, and will be on 6 or less high density discs. As well as the normal moving around, you will be able to climb up and down ladders, jump, wade and swim through water. There are also some advanced scenery affects including flowing water that will sweep players and monsters with it, and translucency effects for glass etc. The game will have a proper inventory, which will let you pick up and store equipment as well as save health bonuses for later. The more you carry, the slower you move and jump, and above a certain weight you won't be able to climb ladders at all!

There will be a number of different power-ups, eg. huge health increases, invulnerability, and shielding (similar to Doom's armour). The game supports configurable mouse controls as well as fully configurable keyboard controls.

Weapons:

There are many different types of enemies, including dinosaurs and cybernetic creatures, as well as automated sentry cannons. Some of the baddies can even track you by your scent!

Requirements
The first release will need an 8mb Risc PC (StrongARM reccmmended for fluidly smooth play). Following that, a 4mb version will be released, but this will be greatly cut down. Robert Templeman has said that the game will utilise all of a 32mb Risc PC if you've got it.
