Utilities
  • Cachepause and more Get the utility that makes many old games run on the StrongARM here, amongst other things.
  • Desktop Hacker The ultimate cheating, hacking and cracking tool. Great for beginners, but a programmer (especially a dodgy one!) can work wonders with this.
  • Deth A neat RISC OS port of DEU's sequel, for design of DOOM levels. Intuitative but slow on pre-StrongARM machines.
  • Frag Island Previously known as JavaQuake. If you've got a StrongARM, 32Mb memory and a fast modem, you can play a deathmatch Java Quake clone here, online!
  • Game Patches All sorts of games-related stuff.
  • id Software The home of Quake 2, Quake, Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. You can get the source code for some of these games here, if you fancy doing conversions! Also available are the Shareware data files so you can get Quake or your Doom player working. These are big downloads!
Strictly, id are a commercial developer, but are only of use to Acorn users as a resource, so I've put them here.
  • QuakeFS A Quake PAK file manager, which treats Quake PAK files like ArcFS archives, allowing you to extract the sounds, graphics, maps, music, and 3D frames.
  • Quake Map Server A comprehensive list of Internet Quake servers.
  • Quake Unpack This utility will allow you to install the necessary quake PC files from the CD without using a PC card. (New link 20/7/98)
  • StrongGuard The ARM club's utility that gets old games running on the StrongARM.
  • StuntED Stunt Racer 2000 Track Editor, by Fednet, released by Nathan Atkinson and available from the VOTI website.
  • WolfED Alter Wolfenstien 3D files
  • The X-Man Some interesting stuff, including a WAD manager for Doom.
