Genesis Professional is the successor to Genesis II, which for many years has been the leading multimedia authoring package on the Archimedes. By reacting to feedback from the many professional, educational and home users of Genesis II, Oak Solutions have developed a new version which is more powerful than its predecessor, yet much quicker and easier to use.
Genesis Professional provides a multimedia authoring environment which is powerful and flexible enough to suit the demands of the professional user.
The Genesis menu structure has been simplified by using dialogue boxes to alter the style of frames and pages. This means that all aspects of the style of an object can be altered in one go rather than one aspect at a time. Master pages can now be created and added to a library. Application creation and editing has been eased by the introduction of ‘Object Linking and Embedding‘. ’OLE‘ allows data to be transferred quickly and smoothly between Genesis and editors such as Draw, Euclid and Artworks. A control double click on a frame will cause the data in the frame to be loaded into the appropriate editor. The data can be altered in file editor and when saved, the Genesis frame will be updated.
New data types have been incorporated into Genesis Professional, which now supports Artworks, Replay, Windows .BMP and .WAV files. Predefined control buttons can be added to Euclid, Film, Replay and Sound frames. A 24 bit colour model is used throughout and Genesis can handle the new 15 and 24 bit Sprites. The speed at which Genesis pages load has been increased significantly. A new ‘turbo-loading’ system minimises the number of transactions with the filing system and reaps impressive benefits, particularly on slower filing system such as the network and CDROM. Many features, previously only available via the script language, can be accessed using the mouse and the new linking dialogue box. Pages can be closed when you move on to new ones. Films can run in ‘one shot’ mode. Button clicks can be set up to cause sound samples to play, contents of frames to change or fragments of script to be executed. Support is provided for Laservision players and for CD (including control for CD audio). me powerful Genesis Script language has been extended with a host of new keywords and now supports global variables which can be accessed by all pages. New events have been added so that script can be executed when an application starts up or closes down, and a range of system wide defaults can also be‘ setup using keywords. Script editing has improved enormously, and can now be done externally in Edit using the OLE facility. Upgrades are available from all previous versions of Genesis (including those bundled with Learning Curve machines).
