Using the Internet Startup screen

The Internet Startup screen provides easy access to everything on your Netscape Navigator Personal Edition CD.

Starting the Internet Startup screen

How you start the Internet Startup screen depends on whether you've already installed Personal Edition.

If you haven't installed Personal Edition

To start the Internet Startup screen, first place the Personal Edition CD in your CD-ROM drive. If the Internet Startup screen doesn't appear automatically, follow these steps to display it:
  1. Windows 95 users: Click Start|Run.
    Windows 3.1 users: Click File|Run.
  2. In the Command Line box, type the following:

    D:\install
    where "D" represents the letter of your CD-ROM drive

  3. Click OK, and the Internet Startup main menu appears. See page 34 for more information.

If you've already installed Personal Edition

If you've already installed Personal Edition, you can use an icon to start the Internet Startup screen. Follow these steps:
  1. Place the Netscape Personal Edition CD in your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Depending on whether you use Windows 95 or Windows 3.1, you can find the icon in one of two places:

The Internet Startup main menu

When you first start the Internet Startup screen, you'll see the main menu.



In the Internet Startup main menu, click the following buttons to perform the following actions.

Main menu button Action
Get Ready Learn about your Internet connection.
Install Personal Edition Start installing Personal Edition. For detailed information on installation, see Chapter 1.
Get An Internet Overview Watch a multimedia overview of the Internet and World Wide Web.
Install More Cool Software Personal Edition comes with additional software that enriches your experience on the World Wide Web. Once you install this software, it will work transparently with Netscape Navigator to bring you sound, animation, and enhanced printing and document production. After you install Personal Edition, click Install More Cool Software to learn about and install this exciting software. You can also turn to Chapter 6 for more information.



Getting around the Internet Startup screen

To get from one screen to another, use the Internet Startup screen's navigation bar.
