Hints for Cannon Fodder by David Sharp As published in June & July 95 Archimedes World, I sent these tips to them, and as yet have failed to receive a prize as promised, despite an unresponded to letter and a phone call. General tips (forgive the pun) * Don't split your troopers up into single men troops unless you really have to, otherwise the trooper's firepower is really too weak to cope with attack. * If you have a lot of troopers in a phase you might try sending one on a suicide run to explore and kill any snipers with their machine gun fire. * If you send one man in to explore (a suicide run) remember to onmly give him a few of your much needed bazookas and grenades. It's very annoying to see half your artillery go down the pan with just one trooper. * When you come up against artillery (biggunz, tanks, choppas and snipers) keep runnning and use your machine gun fire to mow down enemy grunts, this way it is harder for the shells to hit you. * If attacked by a missile-toting choppa and you have no means of defending yourself (another choppa or a biggun) here are some hints: - Keep running, the choppa will eventually run out of fuel. - Hide in shallow water, the choppa won't see you. - Hide next to a wall or building, this works particurlarly well in underground missions with two men right up against a cliff face (the choppa just sits there). - If the choppa is hovering nearby; attack him with machine gun fire for a while, he will eventually crash. - Try and find another choppa (the best means of defence)! - As soon as it lands blow it to smithereens with a bazooka or grenade. * If attacked by a jeep get a wall or woods between you and it and hurl a grenade over the top. * When you see white circular pads all over the place, these are pressure pads to summon the choppa. You must place one or more men on each pad and the last pad that was stood on is where the choppa will fly to and land so you can get in. * Always read the mission briefing carefully especially when it refers to protecting civilians, if you kill one its phase over boy (very irritating). * Enemy grunts always tend to attack the troop you are controlling at that instant, so you can split your troop in two and send one troop to a far region of the screen then control the other troop so that the important troop get clear passage without attack. * If you have the desktop hacker, you can use it by going to the map and then pressing the hot keys or inbetween phases, I recommend this so that you can save the game midmission or even during a phase. For those of you with the hacker, here are some useful addresses: No. of grenades for snakes, eagles and panthers - &9EC4,&9EC6,&9EC8 (Byte) No. of bazookas for snakes, eagles etc. - &9ECC,&9ECE,&9ED0 (Byte) No. of enemy casualties (inbetween mission screen) - &12809C (Word) No. of home casualties (inbetween mission screen) - &128098 (Word) As far as I can tell this is a complete list of all the Supa Dupa Boostas that are in the 24 missions of Cannon Fodder. If you find any more please contact me. Supa Dupa Missile Boosta - Mission 8 Phase 3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow the path as (shown on the plan) down to the bottom right and then left, towards the bush - watching out for traps and the landmine (blow it up with gunfire) as you go. Blow up the bush and underneath is the Missile boosta, touch it to get 50 heat seeking missiles. NB. it only lasts on this phase. Supa Dupa Rank Boosta - Mission 8 Phase 3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After you've collectedthe Missile Boosta go back towards the enemy buildings then go up (look at the map - the blue cross) when you eventually get there, there is a tree in the middle of the clearing; blow it up and you will see a general symbol. The first trooper to touch the symbol will automatically become a general. This will last until he is killed. Supa Dupa Bullet-Proofa Vest - Mission 12 Phase 4 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At the start destroy all the biggunz with your rockets (the ones at the bottom of the hill), then get in the helicopter. Fly upto the top Right hand corner of the screen and you will see two snowmen. Land the helicopter and the Vest is behind the Snowman on the right. The trooper that touches the vest will become invincible!! NB. it only lasts on this phase. Supa Dupa Rank Booster - Mission 16 Phase 2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go left killing all the men as you go and when you get to the top of the stairs in the corridor after the room after the sewer, go left. Kill the man with the rocket (shoot at him) then go down the stairs into the sewer. Stand on the little platform on the left and shoot the men in the room. Now go downto the bottom and up the stairs into the room next to the little platform. You will be able to see the rank boosta behind a barricade. DON'T approach the barricade but attack it about 4 times with grenades or bazookas. It will then be destroyed and you can collect the boosta by walking through and touching the symbol. Supa Dupa Trooper Boosta - Mission 20 Phase 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow the track down to the left and take the right fork. When you get to the next junction go east towards the river and straight up and to the left (avoiding shells from the gun on the opposite bank). Follow the track up and to the right (keep top the edge to avoid the spear trap) and you wil see a small 'S'. Touch this and your trooper will get the Supa Dupa Trooper Boosta. Supa Dupa Troop Boosta - Mission 22 Phase 2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As soon as you start run down the right hand side. Kill the rocket trooper and KEEP RUNNING. Go past the buildings and watch out for the spear trap between the savage hut and the side of the screen. As you run past this trap, open up and blast away the wall of mines and the gun turret further south. You will then see a double 'S', pick it up to give your troop the Supa Dupa Troop Boosta.
