Select Settings > Port Settings or the Settings button on the Open Ports dialog when you open one or more ports to view this dialog. Use this dialog to configure standard COM port properties for an open port. These settings will remain intact for as long as the application remains open.
When you are finished adjusting the standard COM port properties, click the OK button to return to the Open Ports dialog.
Apply new settings
to all active ports - This option allows you to configure all open
ports to the same settings.
If this box is checked, the changes in the Port
Settings dialog are applied to all active ports. If this box is
not checked, the changes you make only apply to the selected port(s).
OK - Saves the changes and exits the dialog.
Cancel - Discards the changes and exits the dialog.
The Communications Settings panel displays the following options:
Baud Rate - Select a default baud rate from the list or enter a default baud rate value to access higher or lower rates than are normally permitted by your Windows applications. The baud rate that you select determines how fast information is transferred through a port.
Data Bits - Select the number of bits that make up the data. Choose from 7 or 8 bits.
Parity - Select a method for error checking.
None - If the parity is set to none, there is no parity bit, and no parity checking is performed.
Odd - Indicates that the sum of all the 1 bits in the byte plus the parity bit must be odd. If the total is already odd, the parity bit is set to zero, if it is even, the parity bit is set to one.
Even - If the sum of all the 1 bits is even, the parity bit must be set to zero; if it is odd, the parity bit must be set to one.
Mark - The parity bit is always set to one and is the eighth bit.
Space - The parity bit is set to zero and is the eighth bit.
Stop Bits - Select the number of bits to mark the end of data transmission.
Flow Control - Specifies the ability to start and stop the flow of data without the loss of bytes. Select a method for controlling the flow of data from the following list:
None - Indicates flow control is not in effect.
Software (XON/XOFF) - When selected, applies the standard method of controlling data flow between two modems.
Hardware - When selected, applies the standard method of controlling data flow between a computer and a serial device.
Advanced - Select Advanced from this list to activate the Rec. Flow Control and Send Flow Control options.
Click the field for any of these options to view the range of valid entries. Please note that not all Comtrol products support all possible options (for example, your product may not support the 921600 baud rate.) Please see the documentation for the Comtrol product that you are applying these options to for specific details.

Flow control ensures the sending device does not send data until the receiving device is ready to receive it. This panel controls the flow of received data. This panel displays the following options:
RTS - (Request To Send) This signal tells the receiving device that the sending device has data to be sent. Select the appropriate option from the list.
DTR - (Data Terminal Ready) This signal tells the sending device that the receiving device is ready to receive data. Select the appropriate option from the list.
XON/XOFF - (Transmitter On/Off) This signal tells the sending device to stop sending (XOFF) data when the receiving device's buffer is full and start sending data (XON) when storage buffer becomes free.
Select Advanced from the Flow Control list in the Communications Settings panel to activate the options in this panel. Flow control ensures the sending device does not send data until the receiving device is ready to receive it. This panel controls the flow of sent data. This panel displays the following options:
CTS - (Clear To Send) This signal indicates the device is ready to accept data.
DSR - (Data Set Ready) This signal indicates the device is ready to communicate.
XON/XOFF - (Transmitter On/Off) This signal tells the sending device to stop sending (XOFF) data when the receiving device's buffer is full and start sending data (XON) when storage buffer becomes free.
