AACD Newsflash!

Amiga Active CDs have some new features

Add your own filetyping system

Directory Opus users have long had the option to use their existing filetypes instead of AACDfile. If you don't have Opus but would repfer to use something other than AACDfile's settings, you now have that option.

Set the filetypes option in AACDprefs to "Other" and set your chosen filetype program as the Default in the Other section of the Filetype prefs.

Improved CD browser

A new version of AWeb has recently been released. This will make the AACD front end even easier to use. Unfortunately, we were not able to get the AACD Special version in time for this CD, you'll just have to wait another month.

Problems with last month's Linux files

There were a couple of problems with the multi-session setup we used to include the Linux files on last month's CD. The software used to create the CD removed the special Linux symbolic links from files, meaning the installers wouldn't work as intended. We have repeated the data on this month's CD, using a different mastering process so the links now work as they should.

Some people had trouble reading the disc as a multi-session disc. All modern CD filesystems on the Amiga can read multi-session discs, but it appears that some older CDROM drives cannot. We are not able to prevent this happening, but we have minimised the effect by writing the amiga session first this month. Some drives will still be unable to read the multi-session data, but now they will only miss the Linux files.

There is no way to avoid using a multi-session disc if we want to combine Amiga and Linux files. Each machine has extensions to the standard Rockridge CD filesystem specification, so the Amiga part of the CD has to be created on an Amiga and the Linux part on a Linux system.
