AACD: Newsflash!

Amiga Active CDs have some new features

Faster searching of AACDs and Aminet

AACDprefs now has an option to copy the AACD and Aminet index files from the CD to your hard drive. This results in much faster searches and means you don't need to have the latest AACD mounted to make a search. You may choose which index files you wish to copy. for instance, if you hdon't have the Aminet Set CDs there's no point is wasting hard drive space with their index files. Each month you may use AACDprefs to update the files with newer versions, or you may choose to have this done automatically when you first use each new AACD.

Convenient Aminet downloads of search results

The CD special version of AWeb does not support FTP downloads, meaning the results of an Aminet Online search had to be loaded into another browser.

Now you can use the excellent GoFetch! to download them. GoFetch! is in the AACD/Online drawer and must be installed for this to work. Once installed, you may click on the Q by any search result to have it added to your GoFetch! download queue, ready for you to download next time you go online.

Opus filetype for Amiga Active CDs

This is a Magellan filetype that adds entries to the popup menu of any AACD.

The extra options are:

  • Welcome
  • Search CD
  • AACD Prefs
  • Initialise CD (without loading welcome page)
  • Remove CD
This means that Opus users can now get straight into the AACDs without opening any listers to select icons.

This filetype was conceived and written by Keith Halstead and later amended by us. Many thanks Keith.

No Readers drawer?

Readers There is no Readers drawer on this CD. Instead, we have put each reader's contribution in the drawer that relates to its content. To show that an item is from a reader, its drawer uses this icon instead of the normal icons for that section.
