Not sure of the number of buffers. It was a full format I was doing. Am
I correct in assuming then from the couple of replies that I don't need
to do a full format first? I always thought that a quick format would
only work on pre-formatted discs.

I'll give this a go. The long formatting time was my main concern, but
in general the Zip discs seem to be particularly slow. SysInfo reports a
transfer rate of around 700Kb/S, and I would have expected more than
that.
