Hi Nick. In a message on 19-Jul-00 14:41:53, you wrote:

Yes, it's a plug-in chip. They were made by Western Digital, and
the chip number is WD33C93. There will be a revision number,
probably a suffix to the chip number. The following is a clip from
a message in my archives. The information is about 6 months old.
Western no longer make chips, but a firm named AMD sell them. I
was sent the following information from a friend who tracked them
down for me. I think he found them on the web. Try _AMD.com_.
AMD SCSI CHIPS
--------------
- AM33C93A SCSI chips for the A3000
- direct replacement for the -08 WD (Western Digital)
- upgrade that old -04 PROTO and rid yourself of errors
-------------------------------------------------------
PRICE : $18.00 US ($25.00 CDN) + shipping
If you do need and track down the chip, make sure you get revision
8, as earlier revisions are unreliable - as I discovered. Under the
chip number printed on it you should see 00-08. I can tell you
definitely that revision 2 (00-02) is very buggy, as I had one.
Hope this helps. John
By the time I think I've got the answer I've forgotten the question.
