Hyperion is pleased to announce that it has entered into a license agreement to bring "Smacker", an industry standard video codec developed by RAD Game Tools and used in over 1400 games, to the Amiga.

Smacker is currently available for Mac (68K and PPC), DOS, Windows 3.X, Windows 95 and Windows NT and provides for both file-format and API multi-platform compatibility.

"We could have developed our own video codec", says Ben Hermans, managing partner of Hyperion, "but since both Heretic 2 from Activision and Shogo: MAD from Monolith use Smacker, we decided to cut down on development time for both titles and license and port Smacker instead. On top of that, Smacker is really very fast and very efficient if you are only using 256 colors. It is doubtful we would have been able to achieve the same result with the limited development time available to us."

Further information about Smacker can be found at www.smacker.com.
