Yes, as SCSI can use DMA while IDE has to use the processor to transfer
data to/from memory.

Mainly because it was early SCSI-1/2 which has been surpassed by todays
faster IDE drives.

Are you still using FFS? Then I suggest getting SFS or PFS to improve
speed as wel. You will notice pretty well straight away the difference
it can make esp. combined with a PowerFlyer PIO3 interface.
