yeah this is what i believe is correct.

Most offer the ability, yes, some even play mp3 cds! Although no decent
brand name models do.

I think the pirate market has kept it alive, like you say in the Far East
etc. Because VideoCDs are easily copyable - DVD isn't. You can download
VideoCD images such as ToyStory 2 as early as last year ready for burning to
CDs. Naughty.
