Subject:Peggy Mpeg and Merlin Graphics Card (Long)

Hi folks,
I bought one of these little beasties for £50 when I got my A4000
recently.

Now - I have an SVGA monitor that syncs at 38Hhz +. The Peggy
however
outputs it video at just 15Hkz. The board sits in the video slot so
the amiga screens can be passed through it. It has a VGA output
socket (so the monitor plugs straight in.)

Obviously as my monitor is not a multisync monitor it will not
properly display the graphics (the left side of the images gets
displayed on the right and vice versa).

The card does however have two extra outputs - an S-VGA and a
composite out socket. HOWEVER - both of these need "extra Modules"
in
order to be able to be used. I already have an SVGA to SCART lead so
that I can display stuff on my TV, but I dont have the module. Or
know where to get it.

Has anyone out there got the same card as me and/or knows where I can
get one of these modules from?

I dont have the money to buy a multisync monitor, not unless a decent
one is going cheap. It needs to be decent as I also recently
acquired
a Merlin Graphics card.

-----------------------

Which brings me onto my second problem..

My monitor does not appear to like the modes that the Merlin and
Picasso 96 (version 2.0) chucks at it.

Every time I do anything 9resize a window, click on something,
ANYTHING; the mouse disapears for 2 seconds, meaning I am frozen out
of the system for those 2 seconds.

Is this because I am still using an 030 (albeit with an FPU and
crystal?). would a faster processor/ppc help this or is it (as
someone
told me) a timing problem?

Onto what happens with the screenmode - when i open a window above
another window it takes a couple of seconds for the new one to open,
and in that time a blue "shadow" (for want of a better description)
shows where the top window will apear.

when that is opened i also often get the other layers becomeing
negatives. (litteraly) and random boxes can often appear. Solid
blocks obliterate whatever is underneath until you click on that icon
then it gets redrawn as normal.

Any pictures appear ok to start with, but move them or layer them and
they goto pot - totally screwed.

Now, is this all just because of my monitor? (An IBM 15" SVGA able to
sync 30 - 70 Hkz (which should be ok!)). I have tryed installing
picasso at each of the settings - 15; 38; 48; etc. 38 and 48 are the
two that provide the most usable modes but even on here a lot of the
better modes (higher than 8bit) are not usable because as soon as I
hit Use in screenmode they either get totally corrupted or are
doubled
up on screen.

Ive played with the PVM or whatever the mode prefs thing is, and
Although its slightly better (ie the screens fill the monitor
instead
of being a compressed box in the middle of it) it still isnt what Id
expect of a graphics card.

So, people - HELP!! Please, I have no other ideas of what to do
other than buy a multisync monitor which Is yet more money.

TTFN and sorry for the very long mail.

Bifford the Youngest.
