9.2K/s is easily possible on compressible data, I used to get up to
10K/s downloading news with my Pace 56.
You may also benefit from the lack of a serial connection. ISDN is
noticeably faster with an internal TA than an external, because of the
extra work needed to transfer the data over the serial port. A PCMCIA
interface probably offers the same advantages.
