When using software rendering, you have to go for the lowest
resolutions. The 603 is in no way capable of dealing with this. In
fact, the K6-II/400 is also too slow to use software rendering in
640x480, with a much faster CPU and a much faster bus...

Hardware rendering is almost a requirement for low-end 603's.

This thing isn't Amiga-Specific, in fact is is generally caused by low
frame rates. When the frame rate drops (and this also goes for the PC
version), the "internal" updates are longer, so that not all obstacles
are correctly identified. This will not let you walk through walls,
since you would end up in a solid brush, but things like the problem
you described are typical for that.

The obvious solution is to use hardware rendering :)
