I never really checked against a PPC Mesa, but at one point I did a
68k Mesa compile of Heretic II and compared it against MiniGL. In
spite of still being unplayable, it was about twice as fast.

Furthermore, MiniGL does some special shortcut stuff to speed things
up. For example, it can bypass the render pipeline and let you specify
stuff in screen coordinates. Since heretic II draws its text with the
GL, this sped things up a lot.

And finally, miniGL is able to emulate GL_ONE, GL_ONE blending mode on
Permedias. Of course, this does not look like the real thing, but its
better than nothing :)

Good idea :)

I think you will find it quite playable on a 4000, regardless of the
604 you're using...
