Texturing the Asteroid


Now that we have our asteroid object, it is time to add some texture to it.
  • Still within the detail editor, select the object and bring up the attributes window.
       The attributes window can be displayed by pressing the F7 function key,
       or by selecting the Functions/Attributes menu item.
    Now we are going to set the objects base properties to the following settings:
  • Select the Color option, and modify the Red, Green, and Blue values to 131, 139, 149.

  • Select the Reflect option, and modify the Red, Green, and Blue values to 0, 0, 0.

  • Select the Filter option, and modify the Red, Green, and Blue values to 0, 0, 0.

  • Select the Specular option, and modify the Red, Green, and Blue values to 82, 82, 82.

  • Select the Hardness option, and modify the Value to 0.

  • Select the Roughness option, and modify the Value to 0.

  • Select the Shininess option, and modify the Value to 0.

  • Select the Brightness option, and modify the Value to 0.

    The final part is to add some textures to affect the overall appearance:
  • Select the "New" option from the Textures/Brushes part of the window.
       From the window that now appears, click on Texture.

  • At the filerequester, select DinoSkin.itx from the Imagine textures directory.
       This will attach the DinoSkin texture to the object, and display a
       window to allow editting of the textures parameters.
  • At the DinoSkin texture information window, enter the following settings:
       X Size = 10
       Y Size = 10
       Z Size = 10
       Noise 1 Magnitude = 2
       Noise 1 Velocity = 0.300003
       Noise 2 Magnitude = 0.600006
       Noise 2 Velocity = 2
       Bump Adj = -0.999985
       Top Clip = 0.5
       Bttm Clip = 1
       Bump Color Red = 43
       Bump Color Green = 43
       Bump Color Blue = 59
       Color Clip = 0.600006

    Notice that any updates to the settings are reflected in the preview window at the top
    right hand side of the window.
    After selecting Ok, the attributes window will re-appear.
  • Select the "New" option from the Textures/Brushes part of the window.
  • At the filerequester, select Terra.itx from the Imagine textures directory.
       This will attach the Terra texture to the object, and display a
       window to allow editting of the textures parameters.
  • At the Terra texture information window, enter the following settings:
       Noise 1 Magnitude = 0.199997
       Noise 1 Velocity = 10
       Noise 2 Magnitude = 2
       Noise 2 Velocity = 1
       Color 1 Red = 37
       Color 1 Green = 37
       Color 1 Blue = 48
       Color 1 Bump = -0.999985
       Blend Color 1 = 0.199997
       Color 2 Red = -0.9
       Color 2 Green = 0
       Color 2 Blue = 60
       Color 2 Bump = -0.499985

    After selecting Ok, the attributes window will re-appear.
    Notice that the preview window updates to show the effect of both applied textures.

  • The object and texturing is now complete!
       To view a quick-render of the object, Select the Project/Quick Render menu item
       and select Ok from the Quickrender Lighting window.
  • If everything went succesfully, the the render should look something like this...
