Subject:RE: Setting up GCC

Hi Charles,
I've got the entire install instructions attached for you in amiga.guide format
taken from the Geek Gadgets CD v2. The guide can also be obtained from the
geek gadgets website: http://www.ninemoons.com/GG/. I would recommend the
easiest path is purchasing the CD (for the beginner) and then let the install
program take care of the set up. The gcc archive at the ninemoons ftp site is rather
ubiquitous in it's components and would most likely intimidate the newcomer,
that's why I bought the CD :D.

I'm assuming you're setting up gcc from files you downloaded from the ftp site.
The best way to extract the files is to use the "tar" utility found on aminet.

Be sure all files are in the partition you created for gcc (about 300MB).
On the cli, CD to the partition you created for gcc and enter "tar -xvpzf 'filename'"
which will create the files and directories.

After that the installation instructions should see you through the completion of
the setup. One important note: As far as I know right now, the ninemoons ftp.
site does not have the necessary amiga libraries & includes that you need to run
amiga specific programs. You must obtain those from the CD. You should however be
able to write, compile and run most any Unix C program out there. I tried some
examples from a C programming book and they compiled and executed just fine.

Hope this helps as I am a newcomer to C programming.

Jeff
