Well,
If you are looking for the best possible image processing system out there,
take look at IFX4. The GUI is old and needs updating (which is planned from
what Kermit said) but the sheer power under the hood is yet to be matched for
the price. I have Photogenics4, I have played around with AE3 as well as ImageFX4.
If you like creating art, manipulating compositions, touching up pictures,
or just being creative, IFX4 is definately the way to go. As an example of
the type of power it has, create a Lightwave animation or similar (with frames)
and save each frame individually. As soon as the individual frame is saved
into the drawer, IFX can apply any formatting to it including lens flares and
such. There is one thing that you might want to know about though, IFX does
16/24bit processing very well but it is a bit quirkey when using 8bit. Photogenics
is an amazing value for what it does, you can cycle through the painting styles
without making the changes perminant. Though if you don't have a graphics card,
Photogenics is going to be inefective at it's best points, realtime 24bit.

Yeah, IFX4 is expensive in comparison, but it has a full Arexx interface capable
of handling almost everything you throw at it. It can even do "bullet time"
animations (you'll remember the slow motion scenes in The Matrix) with the right
scripts.

Many thanks, Don, for the advice. I've been unable to find such a helpful comparison
anywhere.

I must say, I'm tempted more by AE than by Phtgx, from the little I have experimented
with earlier versions. But the latest Phtgx GUI looks really, really good, so
the decision is tres tres difficile.

It seems at least that both are fully OS3.5+-compliant, so that's out of the
equation.

DPaint and Ppaint, I have.

Its things like the smear tool, and 16/24 bit colour, as well as all the filters
that interst me. Can't someone combine AE and Phtgnx?!!

Any further comments from any quarter would be most welcome.
